RUSH The best bass player (Geddy Lee), guitarist (Lee Lifeson) and drummer (Neil Peart) all in one band. Going to see them at Wembley Arena Wednesday night. YEAH!!! Edited by daz_eagle (06 Sep 2004 12:22am) Edited by daz_eagle (06 Sep 2004 12:23am) I've just found this thread and have got to agree with you daz_eagle. I went to that gig (same night as you) and I was 17 again (currently 43). I had been waiting since 1977 to see them and was not disappointed, what an amazing drum solo by Neil Peart the percussion professor. Great to hear the old songs from 2112, Kings & Steel mixed in with Echo, Vapor trails etc: Next best band has to be Led Zep, after seeing them at Earls Court in'75 I was converted to Rock from your everyday 70's pop.
Went to the second night at Wembley which was sheer class. Fantastic having 'Xanadu' back again but disappointing that they dropped 'Closer to the Heart' which, according to Neil Peart's interview in Clasic Rock Magazine was because they're sick of it ?????

can anyone really technically justify their nominations?? everyone says the beatles changed the face of music - which i don't personally disagree with, but it would be nice if you said how rather than just quoting your favourite music magazine. my choice would be the funk brothers - the people behind the majorty of motown music, and the people responsible for more hit singles when the beatles and stones first toured -which music did they admit was their inspiration and tht they most admired??? that of motown - the funk brothers to be precise. even in bands such as maroon five, keane and various other contemporary groups (i'm out of touch now) you can hear similar riffs and drum sequeneces that were (proof can be given) first laid down in detroit studios by the funk brothers. they launched the careers of marvin gaye, stevie wonder, diana ross and michael jackson to name but a few - so whilst i have respect for many bands others have mentioned - it is worth thining about how much you can back these claims up.

I'm stunned that we've got 6 pages of suggestions, and am sad to say that every single one of you is simply WRONG. There is only one band who can lay claim to the title The Greatest Rock N Roll Band Of All Time. THE CLASH
A few persoanl favourites of the modern day who I would give best band ever to are; The Libertines (the one and only) Bands who I'm guessing will go on to do great things....... Bloc Party
