Jonathan Reynolds, not the sharpest to be fair, thought he was being smart by denigrating the millions who voted Reform UK . I was happy with this as it shows the entitlement and arrogance of him and likely the new government. Rebecca Lie-Daily did similar when Corbyn was rejected in 2019 Edited by HKOwen (09 Jul 2024 11.02am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I'm not against means testing if it's strictly kept to someone's means.....However, hasn't this been looked into before as a policy...it probably costs more to administer than the savings made. People can talk about means testing for pensions but essentially we have to look at what the result is going to be.....if it isn't done carefully and we don't get mission creep....because mission creep is usually the way. I tend to find that the most vocal for this kind of thing are those people who don't have to worry about it. If you did this we are going to get an awful lot and I mean an awful lot of pensioner poverty. Most of these people can't really work, are at degrees of infirmity, have various medical or mental issues related to age and don't have families that help for various reasons (in many cases down to their own choices). Would government really put itself into a situation going to reduce their incomes?....Like Greece a few years back? Difficult to believe so....or is it? Unaffected people seem so enslaved to media messaging. People were worried about losing granny to covid and cheered on while the government spent 400 billion over two years just in case someone croaked who could have been saved. Well, if we are going to be sticking a lot of old elderly people into a situation where they aren't eating because they need to heat their home....s*** is going to get real very quick. These people would die a lot sooner than what the threat of covid gave them. There are structural problems that have been built up over many decades. I would need a lot of convincing on this. Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Jul 2024 9.50am) Agree with all of this.

Agree with all of this. Personally I'd have our bean counters looking into different forms of immigration over the last twenty five years. I'd advise deporting a lot of that third world immigration we brought in with their dependents. Unless a third world family is a net contributor I would kick them out. It's harsh but so is pensioner poverty. This country should never have been used as a welfare magnet for foreigners. We should only look after our own.

Well said Stirling - it's no surprise our prisons are overflowing and there's a housing shortage.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Thames Water wants to put charges up 44% or government funding. Corbyn would renationalise, Starmer will capitulate.

Claims about the relative costs of immigration need to be examined so the facts can be separated from internet propaganda:- Has our country been used as a “welfare magnet” for foreigners? It’s well out of date but I don’t imagine the underlying message has changed much:- If it has changed then there is another, even more important, message to be gleaned. We were better off before Brexit!

We were better off before Brexit! How utterly tedious. Immigration has benefitted no one except immigrants. Brown and the Tories allowed this scandal just so they could make the figures look better.

The idea that labour have, that somehow asset strippers are suddenly going to become responsible, is extreme wishful thinking. Thew odeur suffered from sewage suffered by tory Chalfont St.Giles residents had me feeling sorry for them. If only they hadn't voted for it Thatcher's children.

Well, it wouldn't be public control, it would be government control.
