Sick and tired of Royball. And his complaining about squad depth. Ozoh is clearly better than Hughes, who cant pass a ball for toffee. We all know Eze cannot play on the left. Franca slotted in there against City on Saturday, did not feature tonight - not one of Roy's purchases so why should he play him.

Roy needs to go, would like to see Lopetegui or Potter come in for the last half of the season, plus a pre-season and transfer window to set us up for next year. We are not going down this year so it would make sense.

Parish will more than likely hang on to Roy until the end of the year. Bring someone else in late summer, and waste the opportunity. de Boer had 2 weeks with the squad when he came in, and Vieira was our 4th choice through the summer. Lack of planning, not proactive. Will get caught out one year.

I thought Henderson did ok for most of the game and made some decent saves. He seemed to lose confidence later on and made a couple of mistakes. He is fairly confident with the ball at his feet passing out but his long kicks are pretty bad.
The back 4 had a decent game. Lerma and Hughes did well in midfield but both tired and we lost control after Hughes and Ayew went off. Ozoh for Hughes wasn’t a great decision and Eze had a shocker when he came on. Out front three of Ayew, Olise and Mateta played really well and for me Mateta was our man of the match.

In the end a point each was a fair result.

Unless he had a knock, this was a game where Ayew needed to be on for the 90. His ability to hold the ball, move forward, draw fouls and defend might have made the difference in holding on.

Eze is a brilliant player but not a battler. Tonight, it might have been better to bring him on if we were 2 up (or down) with a few minutes to go.

I think Richard’s has done well but Doucoure he is not. I thought Clyde did well tonight. He kept Mitoma very quiet and was generally solid.

I can’t decide if I am happy or sad.

At least we are looking and proving to be hard to beat again. Let’s hope Chelsea overdose on Christmas pud.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Agreed, should never have taken Ayew off and especially for Eza. Schlup would have been better coming on for him but Ayew shouldn’t have come off. Bad substitution but we got away with it and I would have taken the point beforehand and was glad to hold on for it. Brighton are a good side (sadly)

Terrible second half. We went from dominating the game to limping through and holding on in the second half. Not a good watch at all. Totally bored with Roy’s half arsed tactics.

Roy is doing the best he can with a limited squad. It's the board who needs to back him in January. We knew we were in for a hard long slog of a season this year after Roy resigning.

Royball:
Set up 7-2-1, cede possession, and play for 0-0
Hope the opposition makes a mistake
Rinse and repeat

Hodgson out.

Henderson

Reaction saves, excellent.

General ball control, toddler.

So many flaps and spills... not exactly confidence building material

Can't add much - the one chance we had when it was 1-0 and the ball got to Eze and you almost expect him to score but he did not even get a decent shot away. Agree in hindsight it would have been better bringing on Schlupp for Ayew. I think mentally after the efforts at Man City and the prolonged periods of defending in the second half took their toll and Henderson, Guehi and Anderson all made mistakes that could have cost us a goal in the later part of the game which is not something you expect from them. Wellbeck's header was very good and he was challenged by Richards so i think you have to give him some credit.
1-1 was the most popular pre score prediction on this site so i guess take the point and move on. At least no one got injured or is going to be suspended for the next game as far as i know.

Just got home and I know someone must have asked but I'm gonna ask anyway. Can anyone explain the reason for taking off Ayew and playing a half fit Eze out of position? This is nothing to do with Eze missing an open goal of gifting then an equaliser, it's about giving up the ball for the last half hour and hoping to hang on. It never works. If Ayew had to go off and we all know he didn't, then Schlupp or Ahamada would have made some sense, but not Eze. For once I would have been happy for Roy to make no subs in all honesty. Ozoh is gonna be great for us, but bringing on a holding midfielder for the more advanced playing Hughes was a clear signal of, we hold what we have. One of the worst halves of Football I've ever seen. Two points thrown away.
