I’ve always liked Mateta

It’s painfully obvious to everyone other than Hodgson that Mateta is a better player than Edouard. No, neither are goal machines but all day he has held up the ball and laid it off and now been clinical. Turns out a player just needs more than 5 minutes to build consistency.

Well I've seen them both play and I'd say Edouard is average and Mateta is absolute s***.

So that's at least two people who have missed the obvious.

Remember that if a defender is the 'last man' there's still a goalkeeper stood between them and the goal.

Here, there is no goalkeeper, and a defender at best in line with the forward scrambling to get back.

How on earth is that not a clear goal scoring opportunity?

You seriously blame Hodgson with this squad?
Bare to the bones is understating it. Not enough numbers in the squad, no potency upfront and a RB that should have been replaced half a decade ago is what is costing us

Wouldn’t matter if we had gone gung-ho, .pity about their second by hanging in there ,this goal gives something to go for late in the game. We would be four or five down at this point if Palace had gone through seventy minutes stretching up the pitch ,only to find their world class forwards laughed their way to a big score,
