Pretty much agree with all you say Nicholas - we had a couple of chances in the first half and they didn't, but somehow the chances felt like luck rather than skill (though stopping them was a combination of tactical masterclass and fantastic effort). I also believe Roy's tactic against better teams (maybe not surprising without Eze and Olise) is to stay in the game at 0-0, and maybe, just maybe, we nick a goal. Originally posted by Nicholas91 I had the same feeling when they went 1-0 up that we had no chance of scoring, but eventually score we did, and had a decent chance for 2-2. I will be delighted if we get a result against Burnley, but my head is telling me that we will get beaten. But if we do get Eze and Olise back soonish, I think we will avoid a relegation scrap.
Agree with most of that there. I didn’t stay long enough to watch much of Franca but it doesn’t sound great. Glad Ahamada played well, I’m quietly a big fan of his and want to see more of him. It can actually be hard to identify whether we just don’t have the personnel (without Ebz and Olise) or whether it’s the often referenced ‘Royball’ or both. I’m convinced Roy plays for the 0-0 against clubs expected to be in the top half, and that always opens the possibility for a win if we nab a goal. Tonight we actually had the better chances and completely suffocated them first half, we executed a good game plan IMHO. When that first goal was hammered home by Ward though it felt like an immediate ‘Game Over’, or maybe that’s just me.

A lot of emotional comments, understandable I guess. But let's face it, it's Groundhog Day again isn't it? With a couple of key creative players injured, the lack of quality and nous in the art of controlling the game in those areas necessary to score a goal becomes blatantly apparent. I feel like quite the contrarian. 1) Without Ebz and Olise, we earned 11 corners to 2 for Spurs. If Roy is feeling peeved, it's because (like us fans) he wishes the club had shored up its defensive ranks this summer, and perhaps found some experienced depth in attack. Mostly, though, he's been dealt a harsh hand, missing our two most skilled players for a substantial part of the season to date.

At 0-0 we made Spurs look bang average and it took another Wardy mishap to put them in front. I thought Wardy looked like a Championship player last year and he’s getting worse. Richard’s would have banged that in to touch on the left knowing there was no one around him. After that we made them look like Bayern Munich and even then we could have got it back to 2-2 and no one could have said we didn’t deserve it. I’m already f***ed off with this season and we are only 10 games in!

Ultimately Roy has given himself a green pass to continue to pick the same starting 11 each week (unless Olise or Eze suddenly become available) his argument will be that he gave the bench warmers a chance last night and they were basically rubbish. Absolute crazy statement for him to make. I was never a supporter of him being re appointed the end of last season even though we had a good run against lesser opposition, and giving him another year extension was crazy. To set up for a Palace nil at home whether its against Spurs or Fulham or Forest lacks any ambition and flies against what Parish said pre match about Palace being an exciting place to be .At the moment its get 10 men behind the ball at all costs .It really is time for change and to give it a go and find a manager who is willing to do it

We played well for a large proportion of the game and troubled their goal more than they did ours until they scored which then allowed them to take control. But there was little or no quality or cutting edge at the end of our attacks. When we pressed (as we were encouraged to by the crowd) they picked us off and scored the second goal. If we go toe to toe with the current line up against anyone half decent it will be really ugly. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (28 Oct 2023 8.50am)

Rak-Sakyi had a limited impact, in part, because whenever he got the ball in a promising position he was fouled (even though the ref didn’t give most of them). He needs to bulk up and get more upper body strength so he can shrug off some of these ‘robust’ challenges. Franca didn’t really get many opportunities and was a little anonymous I thought.

Roy's supporters point to this period to illustrate what a fine attack minded manager Roy can be, but the cold fact is that up to that point PV had done all the hard work to maintain 12th place in a difficult run of games - Roy came in coincidentally just when we had to play the teams below us, and yes, new manager bounce ensured a happy end to the season.

Going toe to toe with Spurs with the players we have available would have been a confidence sapping train wreck . As for the interview if you don't want daft answers don't ask daft questions . I think Roy was just pointing out that our bench doesn't offer anything but fresh legs and that our starting 11 is as good as it gets .

Let’s not forget that Viera did not use Eze properly. Roy did. Other than that not much. Roy no good in the transfer market. Viera brought good young players in. Was pleased when Roy left first time around, needs to retire.

I just remember the last half a season that Roy was in charge of when we were in lockdown and how dire and negative that was . Then we brought in PV and we had a new refreshing brand of football where we showed some ambition regardless of who was available . Now Roy is back it has gone right out of the window , and it has had a negative impact on the atmosphere in the stadium especially for the last three games , that is because the fans are getting nothing to get excited about, last night fans were booing spurs for playing back to and fro to the keeper when they were 2 0 up, they were doing nothing wrong it was down to us to go get the ball but the players were to frightened to break their lines and the front three kept looking at the bench to see what to do .The shackles need to come off

I'm not sure in what context the comments he made could be deemed supportive and sympathetic. It sounded to me very much like he was pinning the defeat on young, inexperienced players who came into the game when we were already losing. Why he'd have a pop at them rather than our captain, who scored a dreadful own goal to put us behind and then was at 6s and 7s for the second goal, down his side, is beyond me. And as for him wishing the club had invested more in the summer, he shouldn't have come out the day after the transfer window and said that us fans should be happy with our lot. Ultimately the reason he is kept in charge is because he will grind out enough points to keep us up whilst putting zero pressure on the owners to spend. A new manager wouldn't put up with it.
