No worries Teddy, I took it with a smile, I would have had to google Mary Berry (which I probably would have done if I had time)
I was more thinking that at least Kate has that Royal presence & can relate to the players in the team & lots of "would be / tomorrows players" look up to her.

Wasn't meant as a put down DE. Mary Berry is the Queen of Something or Other (Hearts, tarts & soggy bottoms) & Eddie Izzard would've given us a Palace presence, albeit not Buckingham.

Well thats that nonsense over till the next time , the girls really would be more credible if they stopped comparing themselves to the mens game
Really turns me off even taking a glimps of it when they start talking about first world cup final since 1966 .Its an insult to the great players who have tried and failed over the years to put that right .

I blame the media.

From todays ' Times ' - '' As Olga Carmona wheeled away in celebration, it was as though each of the 57 years of hurt - since an England team had lifted the World Cup in 1966 '' etc etc

I have a degree of respect for Womens Football but it doesn't extend to comparing it the the Mens game.

Maybe another way to look at it is that no one can be accused of jumping on the high profile bandwagon.

You are talking nonsense, I'm afraid. A governor general may well represent a king or future king but a governor general can't represent the president of the football association.

Me talking nonsense ? Never

Anyway ,congratulations to the girls on reaching the final ,a fine achievment within the womens game .

I didn't watch any of it though as I was glued to the World Athletic Championship watching Katerina Johnson-Thompson become World Champion in the Heptathlon .

Now that girls is a performance we should be shouting about

It's over now but the bonus row still goes on. Surely they're in so many adverts, that they're going to be getting as much money as they deserve anyway. Unfortunately, the final performance was poor - it's time to forget about it and move on. Of course, there'll be Guardian articles and Lineker and Wright advocating they get 100k a each. What the FA needs to do is clearly state that this would take from grass roots girls and boys football to enrich people who are likely getting quite well off anyway - every magazine and sports brand wants them, despite the losing.
As for anything else - losing is disappointing but doesn't even match a Palace loss for me. If they'd won I'd have been somewhat happy for a little while. Maybe wondered which in the side I liked for a minute - that's about it.

Ditto, and I agree with your final sentence. Incidentally, the commentators yesterday continually pronounced her name as "Katrina" (3 syllables) whereas I'm sure its always been pronounced as you've typed it i.e. "Kat-er-een-a".

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)
