Agreed - we were in need of a Wilf replacement and knew that both Olise and Franca were injured.

CHO transfer fee was quite low as he was on high wages, but the same is true for Henderson.
Burnley also had a very exciting young left winger who they bought quite cheaply this summer.

So LW were available this summer and it appears we weren't overly interested in signing one.

The squad is so thin in certain positions it is a joke. The bench is so poor too that's the main reason we rarely make subs.

This is where I'm at.

We are so paper thin that now after a few injuries looks almost comical.

There were plenty of decent free and cost effective options out there.

I strongly believe we lost he Villa game because we were knackered and they made some good subs. If we lose Eze to injury we'll be in all kinds of trouble

If Franca was signed to play on the left then ultimately that is probably why we didn't sign anyone else for that position. Obviously him being injured is an issue, but we're too small a club to just go out and sign another player, especially one like CHO who I imagine is on high wages. Forest seem to be happy to stockpile players on big wages as they rush to try and establish themselves back as a big club. Personally I'd have preferred Elanga to CHO, but I'm just going to be optimistic and hope once he's fit Franca will prove himself. If Olise were fit then we'd still be a force with him right and Ayew left, but sadly his comeback has now been put on ice.

ahem, Henderson

Cherlsea have at least 11 players out. Imagine if we were in that situation. We'd be certs for relegation

I still find it hard to fully understand why there are so many more injuries than in the old days when the medical coverage was a guy with a sponge and they ran around in mud. Top teams, like Leeds ran out the same team game in game out with Paul Madeley the perpetual sub

Yeah, that's a good point. Sometimes I think I'm just trying to rationalise things, but that deal was odd. Having said that I think he'll be a fantastic keeper once he does get his chance.

i think the Henderson and Holding signings were to ensure we have cover in the squad as the club may have had approaches for either or both CBs and with VG leaving and with Johnstone supposedly having a £10m release clause there appear to be concerns about an approach for him too. I presume Franca was purchased to replace Eze next summer.

However, essentially we had a limited budget but paid out c£40m on a young, unproven attacking midfielder and a goalkeeper, neither of whom will be a guaranteed starter whilst leaving both fullback positions and LW and maybe centre forward very short.

Over the last few seasons we have actually been reasonably lucky with injuries. Guehi and Andersen have been almost ever present for the last 2 seasons which has been a massive positive as the 3rd choice, Tomkins, is regularly injured (as he was again on Saturday!). Similarly Doucoure played every game last season, bar when suspended, which was so important as Jimmy Mac was injured.

Now we are getting a couple of injuries, hardly a surprise when 5 or 6 of our top players are internationals, and suddenly the team and bench are looking really stretched.

As Olise and Franca were already injured we can't really moan about their absences. Losing Ayew, who has an excellent injury record, will be a big loss and if Eze ever gets a knock god help us! Saturday's team and performance just shows how bizarre our transfer business was.

However, we now need players to step up. Maybe JRS will get a start on Saturday. Let's face it he may not be 100% ready yet, but if he can't get a start on Saturday then i can't see him starting a game this season.

Firstly, I do think it was a mistake not signing another winger, I was just saying the signing of Franca was probably why we didn't go out and sign someone on big wages. CHO is supposedly on 100k per week at Forest. You're right that many players are on that but not in our squad and he hasn't earned that, it's only because Chelsea didn't want to lose him when they thought he was going to be a top player. Personally, I think it could have disrupted the squad. Maybe it would have been a risk worth taking, or maybe we would have been stuck with a disruptive player picking up the biggest pay cheque in the squad. Forest clearly have deeper pockets and would probably have got him over us on that basis anyway.

CHO went to Forest after being approached by Cooper, who he had a relationship with him from England U18s days. Nothing to do with deeper pockets
