Hennessey is not going to get a great homecoming welcome in the valleys.

Well played Iran, although Klinsman thinks they fouled their way to victory. However, Wales weren't helped by Hennessy's pathetic Schumacher impersonation.

Now the whole punditry team is basically saying Iran cheated their way to victory! "Using all the tricks". A bit like Liverpool (and many others) do, you mean?

I feel a bit sorry for Hennessey. Daft thing to do, but he did quite well up until then. Wales lost because they're not really good enough and have some very average players, but it does show how remarkable it is that they qualified in the first place. It does set up a very tasty game between Iran and the USA. England should really win tonight, although I still have no faith in Stones and Maguire.

For a game that was heading for yet another 0-0 until very late in the game that was actually quite exciting. Not quite sure why the referee thought Wayne’s assault on the Iranian player only warranted a yellow but there you go. Also don’t know why Bale wasn’t substituted. I don’t know how many touches he had in the whole game but it can’t have been many. End of the road for him I suspect.

Shame for Wales but they were second best today. Not impressed by Bale or Ramsay ... they need to hang up their boots sooner rather than later.

I never witnessed the game but I am told that Wales had no punch in attack at all and the wide players never got behind the Iranian defence with Brennan Johnson particularly disappointing. I was also informed that Amapdu performed well and that he would be a useful signing for us given that he can play in central defence and in midfield.

I feel sorry for him too - but he's always been a bit suspect in goal. Going to be on a few Football's Funniest Moments clips. He's never going to live it down.
