Putin is doing what he has been doing for a number of years. Exploiting prejudices in the west and weakening its resolve. Anyone who believes he is sincere is fooling themselves and assisting him. That people like Orban agree with him is just further evidence of that. Orban has a track record nobody ought to be proud of.

Transgender people are not "disgusting degenerates" and nor are those who try to help and advise them come to terms with their situations. I possibly know a little more than most about how this is done, and it is very, very far from encouragement. It's careful, understanding and loving.

A "decent society" is one which cares for all of its people, and doesn't exclude some because of historical prejudices and ignorance. Women have no more reason to fear a transgendered woman in a toilet than any other woman. Ensuring confidence tricksters don't exploit the situation is a separate issue, which is being addressed.

That education campaigns are underway to assist in changing deep-rooted attitudes, and overcoming prejudice, is to the credit of those help fund them.

It makes my blood boil to see the Luddites resisting progress in so many areas. Morality is what a society determines to be “right” and “acceptable.” That isn't set in stone for all time. It changes as we change, and we change with knowledge and education. That some take longer is regrettable, and inevitable, but cannot, and will not, be allowed to stand in the way of progress.

So freedom of speech isn’t freedom of speech. What about people who might just think cutting up a body to try to change gender is just wrong. You do know that factually over 60% regret it eventually and normally within 15 years. Sadly many take their own lives. Did anyone in your family try to talk them out of it, I mean really try or was it a bit of well it’s your decision.

Only when people raise concerns about this they are shouted down as Transphobic. The people who supposedly speak for the Trans community might like to think about that.

Rarely will you hear a Trans spokesperson condemn the obvious perverts who are taking advantage and gaming the justice system.

As for where they should be put, if they do not feel safe in a mens prison put them in a special wing with all the other perverts most are in jail for sex crimes.

Those who raise unreasonable concerns, as many of them are, are indeed Transphobic. There's no escaping that.

Transgender people are not perverts. Why treat them unfairly, just to satisfy prejudice? We need to isolate the perverts.

It's not unreasonable for women to challenge the assumption about what a woman is according to the Trans community and allies, they also have rights.

Your posts put Trans rights above the rest of us. I am not Transphobic I have said many times I don't care what people do. I do care when the rights of a tiny minority start to impinge on the majority.

Trans people would be better off defining what a Trans person is so they can exclude the "any bloke in a dress pervert" as just that a pervert in a dress.

Who suggested that the speech should be restricted? Only that unwise speech that follows being conned by the likes of Putin has consequences.

I'll take your word that historically, 60% regret it. Perhaps that's because of a lack of proper advice and care. Which is now being provided. How many though stayed trapped in the wrong sex through the fear of family or social pressures?

Of course, it's not. The more discussion there is, the better the subject will be understood.

Sure but tell that to the women who have spoken out and been victimised for it. I am sure JK Rowling can explain that a lot better than me.

Both of my eldest daughters children are in the process. One, one way, the other the reverse way. They are at different stages and one is taking it slower than the other. Both are receiving support, as is the family who are staying together over it all.

Those who've lost their jobs or been no-platformed for expressing views deemed to be part of a made up phobia would argue their freedom of speech has been restricted.

Different issue.

It's also a different issue, but when you study the actual circumstances, you often find these types of claims have much more political point scoring behind them, than the truth.

Some employment contracts have restrictive clauses in them. Break them and you risk your job. Whether you should, or not, is another issue, but some do it just to gain the publicity.

Being "de-platformed" is pretty much a myth. Very few platforms allow uncontrolled access. Almost all belong to someone, or some organisation, and it is for them to decide who they invite to speak. Their space. Their decision. Don't like it? Find another space, or create your own. That many tolerate opinions they find objectionable is to their credit, but no-one has the right to demand access to another's space.

The reported cases were not demanding access but have been invited to speak at universities until a few students protested.
Anything but total support is regarded as hostility and silenced.

That though is the decision of the University who need to decide what is in the best interest of their students.

Those who are "uninvited" can protest all they wish, but it's not their space, or responsibility.

You, too, can feel it's unfair, but in most cases the Universities are concerned about safety issues, and on many occasions the uninvited speaker gains more publicity for their cause than if they spoke to a small audience who heckled them, so I suspect a few engineer the circumstances.
