Exactly. The Everton 'fan' was obviously not actually interested in celebrating his team's survival; far more important to verbally abuse the opposition's manager. Strange behaviour for a 'normal' person. Originally posted by Laboureagle
Pitch invasions have to banned now-with penalties of dropped points or behind close doors matches. They have changed in nature in recent years. When Palace won promotion in 1979/1989, there were big pitch invasions, but the opposition players were not in any danger. Nor did people go over and try and goad the Blackburn fans. There are now too many idiots involved and the invasions have become unsafe. Some one is going to get seriously injured soon in one of these 'celebrations'. It is not worth it
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

It really looked to me like he was going to let the ‘fan’ walk away then changed his mind I wonder if something was said. I think there is a reasonable chance this was racially aggravated.

And as for Mr Pickford . . . I’m glad we don’t have a ‘keeper so lacking in discipline.

There is close up video, it was abusive and provocative but not racial. However, Vieira was well within his rights in my view and shouldn't receive any punishment at all. If another bloke is in your face like that, giving you abuse, he can't complain if you react. Edited by Stirlingsays (20 May 2022 4.56pm)

I am genuinely quite concerned about the potential ramifications of this. What are the comparable incidents? Di Canio was banned for 11 games for pushing over Paul Alcock. Cantona was banned for 9 months for his flying kick on Simmonds. Where does this rank? Somewhere in the middle? The police are investigating now and, as disgusting as the Everton fans were, I don't think their fan actually touched him. I think he'd even struggle to say he was fearing for his safety and it was self-defence because the bloke had turned and was running away when Vieira grabbed him back. Perhaps I'm being dramatic but if he gets a lengthy ban is there a chance he leaves?
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

I think a lot depends upon how much the media make of it, if it gathers momentum & becomes a witch hunt its difficult to say what the outcome will be. Originally posted by Canterbury Palace

Very surprised if it comes to anything more than a chat with PV. The other guy involved has not pressed any charges which is hardly surprising. And all the Everton fans on the pitch were there illegally. Dicannio was banned for pushing a referee over, which is hardly comparable.

Certainly needs action taken against Everton and other clubs where this has happened this week. Having to cross a pitch after a match is ludicrous and no stewards or anyone to help teams off is out of order. No good fining Everton as they made their money staying up. Vieira needs the FA supporting him but I doubt they will? Take the 3 points of Everton and home fans won’t do that again?
