Villa and ourselves could be sucked in here, the gap is not that great with 18 points to play for. A result tonight is imperative. COYP

39 points should see us safe but we may need to beat Watford if we lose tonight. If the last 3 losses were just a blip we will be OK but if it becomes 4 on the trot and our GD takes a knock then my nails will start to be bitten .. will take a lot for Burnley/Everton to overtake us but stranger things have happened. (can you guess that I've been a supporter since 1948 ?)

I agree with dynamicdick. I'm normally very cautious / pessimistic but even I think we are safe. Not one, not two, not three, but four sides would need to overtake us. With five games left are Burnley really going to pick up eight points more than us? Will Everton pick up ten points more than us from their remaining six? No sign last night of our players being on the beach so we will get more points, for once I am looking up, not down.

For all the logic, footballing and common sense in your post, which I do of course agree with, my Palace pessimism and absolute commitment to footballing anxiety still wants me to believe that the everyone below us will now win at least 50% of their remaining matches and therefore we need a few more points on the board!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

We have 5 games left,it is highly unlikely that we will be defeated in all of them and end the season on 38 pts.

I can't help but panic though and I will committedly ponder every possible worst case scenario as though it is reality 'til we are mathematically safe .

I have been a 'Hornet in the pants' on HOL with my doom and gloom apropos our prospects and faced a degree of opprobrium as a consequence but even I believe that we will not plummet through that relegation trapdoor.
