I bet Andros Townsend is happy that he moved to a 'bigger club' last summer. I assume he's injured as he was'nt even in the squad yesterday. I'll always have time for Andros. I thought he served us well and bought into Palace. Always a tireless, honest player for us, don't you reckon?

I do actually wonder whether he 'moved on' or was 'moved on' or even if all parties were content with the arrangement. Either way very, very fond of him, seemed like a genuine, down to earth and funny fella. Worked hard at his craft, grafted his way into Spurs side, had between 2-300,000 loans out down the divisions early on and did fantastically for us with a few very, very memorable goals. We had a staaaarrman playing on the right for a while.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Townsend made it publicly known that the club were doing little to tie him down to a new deal and so Benitez saw the opportunity to sign a player he trusted - perhaps aggravated by the fact Everton had no money to spend. He's a grafter and earned his money while with us, but his constant discussion around Spurs meant it was hard to ever seen him as part of the Palace family, more a welcome visitor. I was playing football with an Everton fan last night who has little faith they'll survive. His assertion is that Pickford can't organise his defence and Keane and Holgate are too soft and unreliable. Having watched all the teams down the bottom of late it's hard to make a case for Everton surviving as it stands, but they do have quality in their squad and games in hand, it's just whether they have the fight.

It's more a case of the 'grass is not always greener'. Although TBH if he'd have stayed them Olise may not have broken throught this season.

Firstly, I always thought that Lampard was being particularly arrogant about which club he would go to when he was available. It's interesting, this. You would assume that like most people, Lampard (or any other manager interviewing for a job) would do some due diligence about his prospective employer. Yes, Everton is a "big" (or biggish) club, but surely you look beyond that when weighing up a new employer. To take on the Everton job in its current state and with the squad you'd have at your disposal implies either that a). You are right; Lampard was simply too arrogant to really look closely at what he was taking on. He just wanted a high profile job and any high profile job would do, or b). he did look closely and thought the squad was far better than it is and he could turn things around quickly, in which case he's a pretty awful judge of footballers. Either way, there's nothing about the work Lampard's done in two months at Everton that doesn't make me think we dodged a bullet in not offering him the Palace job (if, indeed, we ever considered doing so). The fact is, on Monday night Everton looked not only clueless but badly organised, under-coached, and for the all the flak Graham Taylor once took for having a brolly on the sidelines, Lampard looked just as hapless and lost standing on the touchline against Spurs. It'd just that being Frank means no one had the guts to point out that the emperor was naked. When your team comes in 3-0 down at halftime, the one thing a manager presumably tells them is "no more. Park the bus". That Everton were 4-0 down within a minute of the restart tells you all you need to know about the impact Lampard's leadership is having on that team. Not wishing to be picky but the 'Wally with the brolly' was Steve McClaren and not Graham Taylor. Edited by glazedallover (10 Mar 2022 6.01pm)

Bolasie and Townsend both left us for Everton and for different reasons, both have been disappointed. Good to see the grass isn’t always greener.

They could be in line for a points deduction too (FFP), although not likely until next season.

Quite funny really. I would love a really hypothetical scenario that Everton get thrown out of the FA Cup so we get a bye to the semis only to be drawn against Chelsea who are declared bankrupt. We then play City in the final to complete the treble over them this season
