Only now? Yeah, it's called changing your opinion based on new information - you should give it a try some time. If you read the thread, you'll see there were some interesting examples shared by other posters, and I was advised on how her involvement in the films is very different to an ordinary author - I already acknowledged I'm no real fan of the franchise, so this was news to me. It was a good exchange, not ruined by someone posting the same one-liners on repeat with no interest in discussion. Refreshing.

I noticed that too. It looks like it was a lighthearted conversation taken completely out of context. I mean clearly he thinks there's something to the point he's making, but the ramping up of it was very much a creation for clicks. [Link] Stewart usually comes across as a thoughtful and sensible guy. He has his politics but generally appears to be person focused above and beyond that. His tireless decade long work to help the 9/11 first responders retain access to health care was a good example of the work he's willing to put in on others behalf [Link] Yep, I'm obviously much more to the right than him but I've always kind of liked Jon Stewart.

You should worry about the longer term consequences of complete intolerance of views that don't suit certain narratives. Intolerance so bad that people cannot function effectively once tainted. How many others have been treated in a totally intolerant way?

But yes, take the monument issue was instance. The principled stance would be to acknowledge history and create room for sensible discussion rather than silence it or damage it. One interesting aspect of this statue now, is that it still exists, and has even more monetary and historical value than it ever did. Much like in the US with the confederate monuments, most of which which erected well after the fact as a thumb in the eye to black people, this action was a thumb in the eye in the other direction,. As is life.

How many others have been treated in a totally intolerant way? Also, there are certainly issues with social media networks cherry picking what stays and what goes. They actually create a more and more polarised environment that people feel the need to opt into in such a binary fashion, then act like there is a problem with the behaviour of their users. They have helped craft how utterly uncompromising, one dimensional and 'wish list' both the considerable minority of those on the left and right have become in their view of life and society.

What you mean is that you and others jumped on a band waggon, and now you are feeling a bit stupid. All power to her for expressing an opinion held by the vast majority of ordinary people. Time to put the blue haired loons in their place.

I just wonder how many “cancel Rowling” activists have children, in particular daughters.
