They violently assaulted police, broke in to a federally controlled secure building, where no doubt there are threats of terrorism on a weekly basis, so there are plenty of guys running around with guns.

Put yourself in a dangerous situation, by committing a criminal misdeed, criminally breaking and entering into a secure facility and threatening the lives of others, and you are likely to get shot in America.

I wouldn't say she paid the price, more that we should not be surprised at the outcome, with all factors considered. It's tragic as it was a mix of those wanting to do harm, and more benign types who clearly got swept up in something to the extent that they viewed life as almost like a video game.
