There's been a recent libel case on this after allegations in a book. I heard, through the grapevine, that actually Putin finds Abramovich a bit of a joke. He doesn't rate him as any kind of threat or rival, so he just lets him carry on. Obviously, I haven't exactly been in the Putin circles or anything, but it seemed plausible enough.

The German model has been mooted before notably during the euro break-away league fiasco earlier this year. Saudis, Abramovitch etc. could not get a controlling interest in a club as the (50 + 1) rule applies, meaning control stays in the hands of the parent club and its members. The whole thing seems more social, fan-friendly although there must be caveats. Hasn't stopped their success at World level has it.

Always regarded him as a channel for them.....a fence when they require it. A bit like that Russian Lebedev who bought the Standard once. Lots of Russian and Saudi money swimming about in London.....it's my capital but it sold its soul to foreign criminals a long time ago. I suppose it's starting to happen in the north now. Fans can’t find £200-£500 million to buy a 51% share.

Angry Premier League clubs demand emergency meeting on Newcastle deal. Other 19 clubs united in opposition to Newcastle takeover Good to see that at least.

From another club bringing in even more marquee players on huge wages. Translated as 19 other clubs now worried they have no chance. The sooner English football crashes the better, start again with a wage cap, couldn't care about being the best league in Europe, much rather have a league where anyone has a chance, or atleast like Spain and Germany where they've probably had about 18 different clubs in the champions league over the last 20 years.

dont know if this has been said as havnt been bothered to read the whole thread… however… 1st thing i would try to do if i was in their shoes is weaken the clubs around them to ensure PL football next season. , so expect a bid for one of our players in january, they will do the same for wolves/saints/villa/leeds etc.

It may or may not affect us, only time will tell but there is something suspicious about the whole deal. Still presumably no one had to take the knee now, at the insistence of the PL, as the PL have shown that discrimination is ok, providing it is not in the UK
