Disagree that we need a striker that can score at the top level, what we need are midfielders that can supply strikers and also midfielders that can score goals between them. Goals need to come from all over, including defenders at set plays. Yes, Benteke needs service from out wide which isn’t happening but he is a top striker in my opinion for which we rely on just him? Would have been interesting to see what Vieira would have done with Townsend? Midfielders need to open up play as well for which our one seem better defensively but not attacking wise? Let’s hope we get some quality in before the window closes. Realise posters have picked up and disagree with me about Benteke but my main points are that we don’t have goals throughout the team, Especially midfielders. Plus the existing midfielders don’t have a split the opponents defence pass to give our forward(s) goal scoring chances. If Benteke had more than one chance a game he would stick at least one away unlike Mateta at this time. I understand we made chances for him last night and no goals resulted? Perhaps Vieira is changing things but we need goals from everyone and not just the main forward. Sadly Zaha doesn’t seem the player he was as well :-( Edited by palace chick (25 Aug 2021 1.11pm) I don't really disagree with anything you're saying about the rest of the team needing to contribute to goals. However Benteke has proven beyond doubt that he's a waste of space and we need to move on from him.

Benteke is not a top striker. He will only score if you put the ball on his head without him having to actually move. Sometimes think he has his boots on the wrong feet. What will help us score goals and the midfield create more, would be a decent nippy forward who actually made decent runs to allow the midfield to be creative. Originally posted by palace chick

none of those players were worth keeping and were a significant financial drain. As is clear, and has been for a long time, our problem is our attacking/goalscoring and not much has changed or been lost there. We need a striker that can score at the top level. That coupled with Olise and Eze returning should sort things out somewhat It doesn't matter whether they were worth keeping or not (which a few of them were) They nearly all played a role in the first team. Allowing a squad to deteriorate to that level is not healthy for morale or good business sense. And not fair on a new Manager coming in to try and build a new team. I'd love for you to show me another Premiership club who have the same business model as us and allowed that to happen.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

If it 'wasn't fair' on a manager Vieira wouldn't have signed. He knows what he's walked into. Players have spoken of their excitement about Vieira so any lack of morale is in your head not the players. Only time will tell if it was the right thing to do, and it's far too early to call it one way or another yet. I am glad we had the clear out and are trying to move the club on, fail or succeed.

We should have won this in the first half but for poor finishing and indecisions let us down against a mostly reserve Watford team. Stand out players for me were again Andersen, Guehi and Gallaher. My concerns are Mateta, he reminds me of Sanogo, we defo need a upgrade. SP needs to splash the cash or we will be trouble, he needs to back PV in the transfer market or just forget the whole thing and employ big Sam imo

Where are our goals going to come from? Genuine and very concerned question.

A new striker who will take his chances Indeed. And god willing it will happen. A player that has the cojones to say "I'm number one". The reaction of the other three, who have found a cozy comfort zone niche, will be worthwhile observing.
