My son downloaded my ticket into wallet ( didn’t know that was a thing!), but they still would not scan, eventually they did, staff put it down to phone being wet, they realise this is a winter sport right?

Speaking from my own experience yesterday using my phone it was very simple. I arrived at 2:15, no queue, showed NHS covid pass, scanned match ticket, walked straight in, whole process took 30 seconds.

Never seen such long queues as yesterday. Modern technology has got a long way to go. We’ll all be fitted with chips soon enough because at the moment it’s worse than before. And far more expensive.

And Everton are charging a fiver. I'm both annoyed and confused how this is gonna work for me. I can't have a smart phone as I am VERY light sensitive so have to stick to limited use on a basic phone. As someone who is not exactly a fan of Parish or how the club treats us after being moved from my seat (of 21 years) 2 seasons ago, this is just another reason for me to gradualy be put off going anymore! And you are fully justified in feeling that way, it's a disgrace the way the club treat some supporters as if they are 2nd class fans.

Perfect example of making assumptions and decisions without consulting the end client and unfortunately shows a lack of respect to those in our fan base who are unable or unfamiliar with technology. I can imagine some sales guy deliverying a pitch to Parish and Co. saying "who doesn't have a smart phone these days?" and touting the benefits of stopping people sharing tickets, collecting so much juicy marketing information about us all and upping the usage stats of the CPFC app to increase revenue on any ads they might drop in. I can't find anything that suggests that this is a Premier League mandate, however it wouldn't surprise me if it is as this is yet another example of "gentrifying" football as it sets a financial assumption that everyone can afford or use a smart phone or (for the Brentford game anyway) a printer. The clubs and the league have been banging a drum for the last 18 months about how it isn't the same without the fans, yet what they don't say is what people they want to be fans and how we need to fit in their nice and neat definition of well behaved, upwardly mobile, tech savvy and social media promoting drones, who's passion for a club is only acceptable in marketing campaigns for sponsors or to attract tourists to a game. This has turned into a bit of a rant, but it's this kind of thing that puts me off going and that saddens me having had a season ticket for over 35 years. Don't get me wrong, I don't yearn for the days of fences, running battles in the Arthur or cold Tuesday nights against Shrewsbury with 100 people in the stand, but I do wish we weren't seen as a commodity to be used as stats in a powerpoint presentation and seen as fans once again. If we have to bring in systems like this then know your market, take the time to listen to feedback before implementing and try and offset people's concerns where it's needed. The way this was just dumped in our laps, there's no wonder that there's been a backlash and concern from those who aren't tech savvy or can't use this technology. Just a little bit of thought would of gone a long way with this one.
The trouble with computers, of course, is that they're very sophisticated idiots |
