That is hilarious. I haven't laughed that much since I caught my balls on a rusty nail.

Micky Flanagan is putting a lot of his stuff on YouTube. All subjective of course, but I am finding a good few of his routines hysterically funny. Try “Delhi belly” or “Thick people television“ Warning - contains swearing!

Not as painful as your jokes. I refuse to be pilau-ried. In any case, as a social conservative it's clear to me at least that eating 'anything' other than a standard fry up is a creeping sign of wokeness. An act of virtue signalling that other cultures are equivalents, when we all know that's not true, else why would their food be called foreign muck to begin with? Edited by BlueJay (12 Aug 2021 7.02pm) Interesting theory. Isn't fish and chips Jewish? I'm not really sure what traditional British food is. Roast Beef, perhaps. Anything including meat pies. Sausage and mash? I'll eat anything as long as I like it. My main concern with 'foreign' food is how expensive and unhealthy it usually is.

Any strident political or social view relies on at least a partial contortion of the realities of other peoples lives. Applying these 'plugin' terms to our own outlooks too may broaden our perspective somewhat. And yes I agree, what exactly is British grub? It's almost become a bit of a cliched insult from abroad, that we don't even have a national cuisine. For what it's worth I'm fine with enjoying an Indian meal as long as it ticks the right boxes, and don't much mind how far removed it is from its origins. If it's tasty, down the hatch it goes! As you say though, getting too take away happy isn't always great for the ol' waistline!

Walter Raleigh brought the potato back to Britain, and it's possible the Jews living in Britain first ate fried potatoes with fish. Ergo, British. I'm not sure if King David or Solomon went down the chippy though, but you never know.

True story. I was on holiday in Ibiza wandering down a road full of restaurants behind a family all decked out in shell suits. The Mother, having perused another menu, announced to the rest of the family that she was fed up with looking at all this foreign muck and she was "off to find something English, like a Chinese"
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
