I don't know why you would think that. He's totally unproven at first team level.

And if you had seen him play today against Brentford U23's you would certainly think again.

I agree that Hannam looked out of his depth today and I'm someone who sang his praises last season. He will have found today a chastening lesson and hopefully will learn from it.

BTW we played Brentford B today. They don't have an U23 or U18 team. Their B team comprises players who are vying for 1st team action which is why they were such a test for us today. Brentford scrapped their academy a few years back and went for this B team option. Amongst other youngsters we gained Mitchell from them when they closed it.

Hopefully we get Nelson on loan from Arsenal.

Then I'd be happy with the front line of Zaha, Benteke/Mateta, Nelson/Ayew. With Street & Rak-Sakyi as possible backups.

It's the next line of 3 that worry me. Olise and Eze are out for a while, which leaves:

McArthur, Gallagher (not vs. Chelsea), Riedewald, Schlupp, Luka. That's it. Maybe Kouyate and Banks as a backups?

D and Goalie we are good with. Assuming Mitchell is okay from this weekend.

I think he looks a decent player with potential, but I don't see him taking Mitchell's place anytime soon.

Slip of the hand, of course it was Brentford 'B'. And at times it wasn't hard to spot which were a proper team as opposed to an X1 that had been thrown together. Good experience for the younger players.

Not just on his performance today, but over pre season Hannam ,is not there yet. That’s not to say he won’t be but, he needs more time .
and because of that if Mitchell , is injured or starts to struggle, and that’s always possible as he isn’t quiet the finished article, we could do with someone brought in other than moving Riedawald, over.

Yes, my thoughts too.

I've not heard any speculation as to bringing in another LB...only the positions I mentioned earlier.

My concerns about the full-back positions have been well documented and I will sound like a broken record if I re-iterate my thoughts!

It's a way off of course but AFCON is a worry to me with both Ayew and Wilf away. Possible we'd lose Schlupp too who would be some sort of stand in with pace and used to playing wider.

Think AFCON falls on "winter break" but we will still be short for a couple of matches at the least and a little forward planning is required - meaning at least one wide player either on loan or purchased.

Well , your concerns are shared by others ,on here,. Personally I was waiting to see what Hannam, was bringing to the table. As it turns out I don’t see it as enough. The right side is better but not that much , as Cline, is as of yet not overly impressing me, and of course Ward, is handy but not perfection. Its only a personal opinion mind. I see it as a situation that Hannam,s present form doesn’t help, and relying on him at this stage of his development is to much of a risk.

I posted this a few weeks back on another thread and now just updating:

For me I'd still like to see (I've listed players we've been linked with that are somewhat realistic and that I'd be happy with any combination of):

Another CB - Kabak/Nelson - We got Andersen which I think was better than the two options I thought possible
Box to box CM - Gallagher - now signed on loan/Cajuste
2 × Winger/AM - Rogers/Lookman/Christie - I'd now like to see us go for Reiss Nelson with loan and buy option

One of the above on Loan -likely Gallagher.
2nd LOAN- versatile fullback - still think this is necessary as Hannam not ready imo

If there's still money left (Big IF) then I'd go - ST - Edouard

-------
So that's 3 possibly 4 more signings needed to be really competitive next season - but I'm happy with how it's been going so far.

The signings we've made are good but our attacking options look very weak IMO and we need two more wide players / inside forwards and a CF.

A guy I work with whose opinion I respect is a Reading fan - reckons Olise is talented but very lightweight
