Go anti-woke, go broke. Maybe, maybe not but the on line criticism levelled at the Channel just supports their argument ie if your views don’t conform to those on the left, you should not be broadcasting them. Do you believe in free speech Dan? I hope so, so why should this channel put forward a different point of view?

There are more restrictions in plenty of countries in Europe. Just not being reported on. Including here in Ireland. You are uninformed there. Perhaps that is the media's fault. unreported? Not really, they're simply not happening on anywhere near the scale as seen in the UK that's why. Always blame 'the foreigner' for your own mistakes, nothing changes.

Here is a novel idea if it upsets you that much then don't watch it it's not like there is a shortage of channels and someone has a gun to your head saying you have to watch it. All those moaning saying they hate it have been secretly watching it because they have nothing better to do than moan about this that or the other. The other side to it is that they are slating it without even watching it which is worse. Full disclosure: I am a "lefty wet wipe" as you so nicely put it. That said, I am all for freedom of speech. The line gets crossed surely when said speech is propagating hatred? I haven't watched it and I don't intend to. As you say, I'm not being forced to. What amuses me is the "right" (note the lack supporting adjective) feel mainstream media is too far left and the left feel the mainstream media is too far right. If Laura on the BBC isn't pro-government which is the rightest we've had in a while then I'm completely lost...!

Oh I don't really care what they do, as long as they're not broadcasting blatant untruths that lower the public discourse ever further. There were ugly scenes yesterday with a BBC journo getting all sorts of abuse from anti-vaxxers just because he was wearing a BBC lanyard. This is what happens when the anti-BBC narrative is pushed hard (not that this is GB News' fault). I've actually got a lot of time for Andrew Neil as a broadcaster and journalist and think his principles should hopefully mean this won't be the case. But at the same time they are a commercial station who need viewers to stay afloat to maintain advertising revenues so they are going to need to rely on 'controversy' to drive traffic their way so hopefully this won't lead to standards slipping too far.

I agree about Andrew Neil, on opening night he made a point of stressing they would not be hostile in their interviewing and would allow any guest to put their views forward, I hope so and believe this is the intention.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
