When Eze arrived he said he was happy with the role he was being asked to play which was to be on the left with freedom to move inside.

Hodgson presumably doesn't see the squad as suitable for a 4-2-3-1 formation (which would allow Eze to play in a no 10 role). I suspect that he sees our DMs as being either too slow or not equipped to play in that system.

Yep point well made and I don't disagree with you in that our central DM's being too slow and now not up to the grade. On that that's where I see a young DM is where we must make at least one acquisition this window - does anyone know where Flynn Downes is in terms of recovering from injury - think he is a real talent and would be great for us - and available at a "snip" if all you read is correct..!! Yep point well made and I don't disagree with you in that our central DM's being too slow and now not up to the grade.

On that that's where I see a young DM is where we must make at least one acquisition this window - does anyone know where Flynn Downes is in terms of recovering from injury - think he is a real talent and would be great for us - and available at a "snip" if all you read is correct..!!

If we do that and go down we can bounce back up in a much stronger position..!! As unpalatable as it is as an option - I get it..!! Problem is that the Gulf in terms of finances is so great between the Prem and Championship - is that you run the risk of doing an Ipswich or a Sunderland. So for me you have to deal in the here and now, whilst progressing at the same time. That's the reality..!! COYP

That is all very utopian and all that - in that let's tread water, build the infrastructure, academy etc..

If we do that and go down we can bounce back up in a much stronger position..!! As unpalatable as it is as an option - I get it..!!

Problem is that the Gulf in terms of finances is so great between the Prem and Championship - is that you run the risk of doing an Ipswich or a Sunderland.

So for me you have to deal in the here and now, whilst progressing at the same time.

That's the reality..!!

More a fact I feel.

Our players would have to be able to pass a lot better including movement to be able to get away with that formation.

You do realise that 4-2-3-1 is no different in practice from 4-5-1 which is what we played with 3 DMs last season. It would still have the same players with Wilf left, Andros right, the only difference would be Eze playing in that central position of 5 supporting the lone striker and 2 DMs instead of 3.

It would work just fine, but I think we have produced better football with a 4-4-2 even if Wilf does appear more on the left than he should during the course of the match.

I don't feel Ketteridge was aiming for perfection just the next level especially one where we have an improved stadium and one where our academy will attract suitable youngsters to seriously help with our next level, we are not as it stands in any situation to be looking at the next level I feel because these issues desperately need addressing first.

The difference is if Newcastle or West Ham go down you are pretty certain they are coming straight back within a season or two for Leeds ,Palace Sheff united , Burnley Brighton etc you are not so sure. That’s the level we need to get to.

People talk about realities, but what are the realities for Palace? Only ,”Big clubs,” can go forward and stay there. Big in every sense,. Ground, high capacity, enormous finances, to call on, playing staff of high international quality. The best of Training facilities. It all has to be there in place. If you want the big time and keep it. So is it realistic to expect , Palace, minus much of that , because in the main we can’t afford it, to progress beyond , being good at staying top or near the top of a group of teams in the lower Premier and upper Championship. Many of which yo yo . ? That for me is the reality.
