It started as a trickle in 1946 and has turned into a tsunami of men ( but not women) ever since. Many of the 1946 ones started relationships with British women. The opinion of the dead British blokes was not sought. Wouldn't the world be nicer with no dead war veterans and therefore no poppies ? Good points.

Crowds are good. That is how humanity thrives. Why so much progress has been made over the last 100 years. But I concede I am a little odd. For me, one of the most encouraging sights I can see is a market just as it comes to the end of its trading day. Rubbish everywhere, rotten produce discarded and generally looking a mess. But a successful day. Plenty of people buying and selling, mingling, arguing. Vibrancy. Life at its fullest. Then others come along and clear it all up, just in time for the entire show to begin again the following morning. Beautiful. And if you add some smelly foreigners into the mix then all the better for it. Daft b******s soon start reading the Daily Mail and moaning about the next wave of migrants coming in who are not as hard-working as they are. I'm not sure that is true. Too many people are the cause of most of our planetary problems. Britain doesn't need more people.

Can I ask exactly what is your point here? It's a minor point affecting only a few but it's stated plain enough. That a percent of these servicemen fought and died aboard only for their women to end up f***ed by foreigners. Hence, the policies after the war ultimately betrayed them.....those it would have p1ssed off anyway.

Did he settle with a girlfriend of a servicemen who died fighting overseas....who would have been p1ssed off about it. Your family history is for you to know, not me.

A bit of a tangent I know but I think the sad fact is that world wars aside, most often when someone signs up to 'fight for their country', they and their allegiance are simply used in such a way that has nothing to do with genuinely defending the country at all. Corporate and geopolitical interests and so on. In living memory, there haven't been many wars worth fighting. Countless soldiers go loopy after leaving the army when they reach the conclusion that the people they were shooting at were realistically no or little different than they were. I certainly put my stock in both my fellow man, whoever that may be, that I do any government.

The whole point of a military is collectivism.....you're fighting for a nation or ideal - an entity you believe in. The more individualistic a society becomes the less that is going to appeal.....which is probably why they can't attract the numbers like they once did. It's easy to be conflicted about it all. in WWII there were 27 million Soviets killed. Mostly men. That left a huge gap in the demographics. Lots of single women, spinsters, widows etc. And in response, did Stalin decide to 'celebrate diversity' and invite half the Third World's men to live in the Soviet Union ? did he shyte ? To win WWII Soviet men paid the ultimate price, and soviet women paid a high price too. Maybe that explains a lot about how current thinking regarding 'celebrate diversity' is very different in Eastern Europe ?
