Because to non Palace supporting outsiders Crystal Palace is not sexy. Simple as that. If this was the 80s or 90s sure, we could buy our way up the table, bribe council officials all the way to a sw***y super stadium, pay what ever it took to make it all happen like Blackburn Rovers and the fanbase would grow and the trophies would stack up.
We are not close to the centre of the city, on the Kings road or in any way attractive to a Billionaire who wants to build a club from the ground up. To someone with no affilliation to Palace the foundations are not even attractive enough.
Thats why. I'm afraid you are either to bias in Palace's favour or too romantic if you think otherwise.
I am sorry to burst your bubble but we will NEVER be able to sustainably compete with Arsenal or Spurs and we only will with Chelsea if Abramovic walked away and took his money with him.

Ah, your posts are always glass half full eh!

In truth, were we to move to the National Sports Centre I think we could be sexy. The Crystal Palace area is getting pretty cool and the site has all sorts of great connotations. It's an area where you really could imagine a whole village growing up, with hotels and conference centres etc., like around the Chelsea ground.

Sadly, Selhurst doesn't stand much chance of ever being that. Much as I love it.

This is true.

It would take the purchase of housing and businesses around Selhurst Park to make it a first class arena.

It isn't really the best area for building anyway as it is in an old brickworks with sloping ground all around it.

The answer to all of this is money, as with most things.
I would be delighted if a super rich owner came in providing they wanted to build a first class team and facilities like Man City.

I don't agree.
Palace is an affordable Premier League club. Anyone buying it who was super rich would only be interested in it as a promotional tool or a hobby. Therefore the success of the team and the image of the club would be paramount.
The location of the club does not matter to the millions who watch the PL on TV around the world.
the only thing holding up a transformation of the facilities is money and the practical issues around land purchase and building work.

I would favour a move away from South Norwood because I no longer live near there. The club would be best served by creating easy access to the most possible fans.
Somewhere near the M25 might be a possibility but Palace Park would do.
Anywhere with good road and rail links and some suitable land is an option.
We will never progress beyond where we are without crowds of more than 40K.

Were Man City sexy? Or was Sheikh Mansour an Oasis walking Man City fan in any of his PALACES?

If we buy the Whitehorse end from Sainsbury’s, think of the nectar points we will get. Enough to buy a decent striker.

Oh no.

Only 4 FA cup wins and a League Cup Winners Cup win when it was bought. Nothing to see here. Oh, and an absolutely massive fan base. It hosted the largest ever crowd in an English club ground.

The day Palace become another soulless entity attracting glory hunters (beyond where we are now!) is it for me.

30 years in , and the year we lost the cup final it came home. That would have been the end of the chase.

Palace are the Trotters. The fun is the struggle.

To quote you Maple 'I smell pee' massive fan base my ass & I supply their NYCMCFC supporters club. I remember them along with Spurs, Sporting Lisbon & NY Red Bulls playing in a four match tournament, they barely had 150/200 fans at Red Bull Arena. Spurs had some where in the region of 10X as many easily 2500/3000.

I really dislike Man C and Chelsea because, unlike the other clubs at the top, I feel they are what they are thanks to the riches of owners who are using the clubs in part as PR vehicles.

So I can't want that for Palace. I think it would feel a little hollow and soulless to succeed that way. A 50,000 bowl stadium with 15,000 tourist fans. God no. That's just not the club I support.

Owners who are wealthy enough and smart enough to allow us to build, yes. Oligarchs, sheikhs, princes and potentates: no.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Without that money now we can always get relegated and knowing us the support will evaporate without many years in the Prem, and without the money, you can’t guarantee many years in the Prem. By many I mean decades, not 7. I agree with what you’re saying but it’s not possible unless loads of money is pumped in.

Are we any different as it often feels like Steve Parish uses Palace as a PR vehicle

You talk about Palace not being sexy, well if being sexy means most of our fan base comes from other parts of the country/world with no connection to us then I'd rather remain unsexy.

I want to support my local football club, not a global brand.
