Afua Hirsch is the embodiment of a Viz character. One of her best was when she said Nelson’s Column should be taken down because he didn’t oppose slavery. Boudicca, or whatever she’s called now, was doubtless the originator of Brexit in her mind.

I don't watch red nose day or any of these celebrity charity fundraisers, it's just not my thing.

I think David Lammy has had a negative impact on the donations although you cannot prove that or that Brexit / austerity was the reason.

I did hear someone who watches every year say that it has got tired and the format is repetitive so it is also possible that the viewers just got bored.

We watched Deadpool 2 which was far more entertaining

The problem is that they are all just so terribly well meaning ....essentially they turned it into a TV charity ad with bits of comedy stuck in.....after a few years of that it suffers from repetition.

It should be what it says on the tin....comedy....a Little bit at the start to remind people what the good cause is for.... and then just focus upon just making as much good comedy as you can...bang...bang...bang.....and tell em what you raised at the end.

If you make em feel sad or guilty....guess what happens....it's not rocket science.

The problem is.....within that kind of environment.....there isn't going to be someone saying 'no' to the 'bleeding hearts' stuff.

£60 plus million is still a huge amount though, dwarfs what Sports Relief raises.

I note that the takings from this year's self-congratulatory smugfest are quite a bit down compared with last time. Probably a combination of the public being hugely unimpressed by the antics of those dimwitted tw@t-ends and growing cynicism over the ultimate destination of monies donated.

It could also be down to compassion fatigue. There’s hardly an ad break without someone asking for money, sometimes quite contradictory pleas - polar bears followed by seals, envelopes through the door, collection tins being rattled in the high street, beggars, etc. Personally I only give money to the poppy appeal and some homeless people; if they spend it on booze then I don’t blame them.

And this is why I don't watch Comic Relief. Yet another charity hoarding money whilst begging the public to donate. Oh and check out the salaries.

That is absolutely shocking and should be made illegal
