Well, based on my experience from last night`s game (and witnessed several times before). No matter what advantages it brings, i have decided that i don`t like VAR. It simply feels like ejaculating without orgasm. There is a result but no tension. And whenever there seems to be a tension (goal, appeal etc) you have to cool off.

Be prepared for about 5 penalties a game next season when it gets here. All those off the ball incidents that refs miss or ignore will get flagged up as will the majority of challenges in the penalty area. If the authorities think this will erase controversy and create fairness then they are totally wrong as we will still get managers fuming at bad decisions and fans getting upset. Also who are these people that operate VAR? It feels like they want everything reviewed just because they want to be the centre of attention like most referees. How has VAR gone down the European league's with fans? Will have to look into that when I get a bit of time but I have a hunch the feedback will be negative.

It has been launched in my country this year. So far i can say feedback is more positive than being negative. I can confirm nearly 95% of cases, it brought justice. At few incidents, there were asks on why that incident was not reviewed with VAR. However, based on my comments above; i am not sure if i would trade off more justice with less tension. It is obvious that VAR will continue but maybe regulated to avoid this annoying `TV-timeout` look like pauses.

Yes - it will simply depend on which side your on when a decision is made.. Partucuarly over such debatable decisions made at such vital moments in a game.
And we'd probably have all the Man U players and fans screaming blue murder. VAR certainly won't satisfy everyone...unless like in other sports people accept/respect the final decision. I think its been viewed better in Spain than Germany or Italy - the main issue seems to be the time taken and lack of communication. The MLS has had positive feed back but they like a good old replay/break to stop the action don't they...

Got to be corrupt. He's got his back to him ffs and the arm isn't moving towards the ball... Remember Northern Ireland v Switzerland 2017? Play-off for World Cup qualification. Penalty awarded to Switzerland was extremely similar and out went NI. Total outrage in the British media the next day and subsequently. Compare that to today: "glory glory Man United" "Ole's got the Midas touch" "Rash the smash" etc.

I vividly remember Thierey Henri's handball goal in Paris that knocked Ireland out of the world cup. I agree, all the arm wrestling at corners will throw up what has been blatantly ignored this season but, to possibly our benefit, some of the fouls on Zaha may now be punished - we can live in hope.

I'm still undecided & want to see VAR in action over a season to make my mind up. Mates in Spain & Germany both reckon it's working well - the guy in Seville reckons it has helped ruin Real Madrid's season because they've not been getting the decisions they had previously (or things get overturned).
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Then it struck me that I'd seen the self same thing not given (no VAR) against Ramos. The Spanish media all said it was a trick of his that he generally gets away with - use your arms to make yourself bigger then turn away to make any hand ball look accidental. The giveaway is the eyes. Last night, Kimpembe did exactly that & if you watch in slo-mo he's looking at the ball & following it's path right up until he can no longer physically do so. The thing that convinces me it was the right decision though is the fact that Clattenburg says it was wrong. Edit: Forgot to say, all those pundits I've seen say "no pen" are those against VAR anyway. Edited by Nobbybm (07 Mar 2019 1.21pm)

it stopped a lot of cheating in the World Cup and worked wonders for England. My hope is that it will stop players diving in the box or at least show when people have tried to con the ref and they can be rightly ridiculed by all.

I really don't get why there can't be an appeals system. No appeal, no VAR. 2 appeals per team, per match, successful appeals mean the right to appeal is maintained. Any player can appeal anything (but it must be appealed immediately) and none of this "clear and obvious error" nonsense, that's pure bulls***. You'd lose flow, especially at the end of tight games, but maybe there would be fewer arguments with the ref and refs would do better for that.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

After a lot of viewings I noticed the players voluntary arm to ball, it is hardly noticeable but there.
