Taking into consideration Sorloth leaving and if we had 1-2 injuries in that area then yeah we would be imo. Ayew has not set the world alight and highly likely Wickham will pull up again. Then we are relying on Benteke. The landscape can change very quickly. 2-3 losses and we are right back in it.

With wickham benteke ayew fit, we could get 2 out of 3 injured at the same time and not be any worse off than we are now. So don't think we'd be f****d if we got 1 or 2 injuries. Personally I think we'll get a loan striker in and see how it goes second half of the season.

Fair points about FFP and the new dynamics of the transfer market. I wouldn’t especially disagree.

That said I still think there is more room for signing players who can be developed - as with Wilson and Fraser at Bournemouth. This really isn’t something we do much really. It is I think notable that we haven’t signed anyone in our PL stay who has developed sufficiently to attract a big fee.im not suggesting we go the full Mike Ashley but rather the general slant of our transfer policy is out.

A recent transfer I’d pick out is Kouyate. He’s been fine and was a pragmatic choice. But that’s 10 mill or so we’ve paid to the Hammers. And well Kouyate will in all probability go the way of Punch, Jimmy Mc, Cabaye, Dann, KellyWard, Tomkins, Ledly etc. All good signings but all will finish their careers at Palace or not attract any significant fee.

As someone else commented it isn’t a bad thing that players are staying loyal to Palace I’m simply saying the balance is slightly out. I’d prefer to see a few more Meyer Riedewald signings. These are signings with a touch more risk attached - some working others not - but potentially profitable. And while we aren’t a selling club we should be prepared to turn a transfer profit from time to time. Essentially all out PL contemporaries have sold players at a good profit on a reasonably regular basis and that puts us at a disadvantage.

The dynamics of the transfer market have changed due to the money now swilling around in the Premier. We are no longer a selling club of our best players, as in the past. The transfer fees are no longer so relevant, its the wages that are the big factor due FFP. Clubs aren't prepared to buy players for a higher fee and take their wage deal.
This unfortunately is where CPFC 2010 has made mistakes in the past, as our wage bill is 83% of revenue. Steps are being made to offload unwanted players, but having to wait until their contracts nearly up ie Mutch and Puncheon.

Yep. We are where we are though and just need to do what we can. It is daft though. We had a go at the top table but it then its resulted in us looking for scraps.

This is a bit strange on a spend per point basis we have the second lowest after Spurs in the Prem [Link]

This is an interesting analysis and shows that firstly we should have some cash available if needed and secondly that spending a fortune does not guarantee you anything(Fulham)!

I agree with the article.
Go buy a hungry young striker and hopefully make him better and if he does the job then he either stays and we prosper or a big club comes in and we still prosper!
We need to build long term now.

Despite people doing the (usual) slagging of SP and Dougie for not being able to bring players in early, I think this is an interesting window, and I'm fine with the strategy of moving out un-used players first.

I suspect their list changed the past few weeks, with 10 points in the past 5 games, Palace are in a much better position than before the festive period.

I also suspect this changes their transfer strategy.
For one, it's a different challenge to attract players to lower mid-table team than to a relegation battle.
Second, the pressure to bring in battle-tested players who can take a place right away is reduced (moreso with Ayew scoring a couple and Wickham and Tekkers approaching fitness).
Lastly, I hope that it allows targeting the young players with potential instead of the 28 year-olds. With three squaddies moved out, there should actually be some salary room to bring in some players for the future.

First window in a long time that I think we have enough cover and are in a good enough position that I'm fine if we don't get any players in now.

Who knows, if we get a few more wins, Roy might actually give some of the young players a real run out now and then.

Hi All,

As you have probably seen and as I told you all over the last 10 day Kirby has gone to Blackpool.

That’s 6 players that have now moved on and I said 7, the 7th was likely to be Papa but due to injury will not happen however SK could still move on.

Now let’s hope my sources are right in regards to incomings.
