I assume you haven't read his history then.

He may be rich and privileged now but to say he has never been anywhere near the seamy end of life is risible.

“When I was two years old, my father was murdered. That shaped my entire life. Not long after that, my mum made the decision to leave me and my sister in Jamaica and go to England so she could get her degree and give us a better life. For a few years, we lived with our grandmother in Kingston, and I remember watching the other kids with their mums and just feeling really jealous. I didn’t fully understand what my mum was doing for us. I just knew that she was gone. My grandma was amazing, but everybody wants their mum at that age.

“My mum was working as a cleaner at some hotels to make extra money so she could pay for her degree. I’ll never forget waking up at five in the morning before school and helping her clean the toilets at the hotel in Stonebridge. I’d be arguing with my sister, like, ‘No! No! You got the toilets this time. I got the bed sheets.’

He's done amazing well for himself from these beginnings. Considering some of the press he gets and having to now deal with pricks shouting racist abuse at him, I hardly blame him for sticking up for himself as he's done here.

I can tell you that my life growing up was hardly normal and sometimes it was tough but that gave me lots of extra skin to deflect adversity.

I am stronger for my life experiences.

In life, you either stand up to adversity or it does you in. Life is never fair.

I don't think abuse affects everyone in that way though. In fact, I suspect it is more normal that it deeply damages people and destroys their self-esteem. Then some people withdraw into themselves, some get angry and some have mental health problems.

As for historical persecution.....Do we get to pick? Why gets the right to treat people today based upon arbitrary views of the past?

Your great grandad did something bad to my great grandad.....Oh feel bad about it....real bad.....Bad bad Grandad.

Why do you always conflate two totally distinct and unconnected things and try and make some sort of point out of them? Strange behaviour. Oh, and I don't work in the tax office.

If you can find many people that don't think a racial slur is worse than calling someone ugly then I will go and buy a hat eat it.

Totally agree.
None of us really know the extent of the damage we carry from life adversity. Sometimes we only realise it much later.
I sympathise with anyone who has endured trauma. I know that sometimes only the support of loved one's can keep you sane.
Sadly, life runs over you if you let it.

Well, you're a bean counter and you said you work in tax.....whatever, I can see the hypocrisy in your adherence to far left ideologies and the system you support and benefit from but....fair enough.

Ah, the appeal to popularity fallacy.....Well as for the hierarchy of abuse based on skin colour that you so strongly believe in....well I won't deny that there are plenty of brainwashed people who have long since succumbed to the daily propaganda pushing sensitivities based on race.....on that or simply just aren't interested enough to question its foundations.

Still waiting for for a convincing argument.

There you go with that 'far left' nonsense again. Making all these nonsense assertions based on the little you know about people is exhausting. You'll never get a convincing argument because you'll never listen to one.

It's like trying to reason with a spoilt child.

You literally wrote about...and I quote, 'historical persecution, white privilege and superiority.'

And then you have the gall to say that identifying you as believing in far left ideologies is nonsense.

And again...plenty of insults....but no argument.

Like it or not, newspapers influence public opinion. it is my humble opinion that there is a degree of truth in Sterling's allegations, especially if you look into the many negative stories about him (particularly in the early days). I think these have triggered a dislike for him which, in turn, has both enabled & encouraged journalists to use negative language when reporting on his antics. This also seems to have expanded to other black sportsmen & women.

This article from Daniel Taylor gives a good insight into the mindset of journalists....

Daniel Taylor needs to stop talking about diversity and give his job to a BAME journalist.

I think it's total BS myself but those that believe in it need to stop talking about it and be apart of the solution they are asking for.

The Guardian is loaded full of baizuo talking about how terrible white people are.......In twenty years time, if it still exists....it will still be full of baizuo talking about how terrible white people are.

Just not as hypocritical and awful as they are.

The amusing point of this whole story is the pathetic backtracking of the perpetrators. It only crossed their mind what they have done is wrong, when they are caught and exposed.
The rest of this thread is tiresome attempts to point score off each other, where there is never a winner. Some of the posts are baffling.

Looks around for for tiny violin, but can only find a pandoras box of bitterness and vitriol.

Protip – learning to admit when you've made a mistake rather than using your life story as a deflection tactic is probably the better path to take. It's also quite cathartic. Even a six year old knows that.

When Hrolf offers an olive branch take it. Maybe one day we can achieve some convergence.
