This time last

This time last year we got Sorloth which sadly turned out to be a damp squib. As Matteo has said, Solanke has scored a few in the PL, and is not an unknown quantity. Let’s get behind him and back him to make a difference. He could be great in a 442 with Wilf, or 433.Cautionary note, he is I believe currently injured, and not match fit. Could be mid April before we see him at his best.

He has scored 1 against the Weeds last game of the season. Don't get me wrong happy to have him aboard as looking what we currently have may well add something extra but would like to see another recruit in thr front line this window.

its a risk free gamble and nothing more.

Not really FREE, cause if he score 6-7 goals, fans will pressure the board into paying the 25-30 million Liverpool demand for him.

I just don’t get it , I really hope I’m wrong but just look at the facts he doesn’t get on the bench at Liverpool he’s score 1 goal in 2 seasons in a team that’s flying he must be so low in confidence, he should be going to a mid table championship side where he can excell not palace . we’ll spent the 2-3 months chanting his name as he beds himself in and his confidence grows then he’ll score a couple do good things and we’ll send him back . All it’s going to do is save Liverpool £25,000 a week , I’d rather see a Defo or a hungry free scoreing championship player come . As I said earlier I hope I’m wrong
Chris

Defoe is 36 - a couple of years older than 'proven goalscorer' Darren Bent - and can't get off the bench for a team that has lost 9 of its last 11 games. And I'm guessing he is on way more than 25,000 a week

but essentially he will be free wages wise as if we sent sorloth on loan to compensate then things will weigh up similar.

i hope to god he scores 6/7 goals but you have to admit history says otherwise.

Without wishing to sound too downbeat this just feels like another short term striker who won’t score goals to go with the several others we have had. Defoe would be a far better choice but Dougie and Parish obviously don’t think so. At least this time we are acting quickly.

Be interesting to see how Roy fits Solanke into the team especially with Benteke on the verge of coming back. Will he play both together or just one of them? If he does along with Zaha and Townsend that will mean only two from Meyer McArthur Luka and Kouyate will start

I agree. This "looks" like another waste of time and money - unless he's to be another winger. Un-f--king tested, fingers-crossed, hope he does the job, exercise in trying to save a quid BS management. Cover for Zaha? then okay. But don't give me this full forward crap. His youtubes were missing goals except for clumsies and penalties -no real striker shots into the net. Ok as winger but he's not a FF.

Roy and other managers do not seem to "get it" that any striker needs great midfielders who can feed them the ball. That's why so many of our strikers fail. They leave them all alone by themselves to go get the ball from midfield, beat 4 defenders, and score a goal. All that happens is that they get frustrated, pressured, and lose confidence and form. I agree with a previous poster who suggested it may be the dumb system we play and NOT the players. Sorlorth has been wasted, Benteke has been wasted, Ayew has been wasted, Wickham probably wouldn't get injured so much if he wasn't asked to do so effing much, and now the answer is to get this bloke who is NOT a striker.

Agree with above his you tube clips are no better than Sorloth s . In my opinion he is not a target man neither a 10/12 goal a season player .He is more a Loftus Cheek type more creator but we will see

I would like to see Jonjo Shelvey at the club.

I agree with the other posts...If it's this guy or nothing, I'd be happy to have him. But he does seem like more of the same of what we already have.

His highlights are pretty sparse, and at best he looks like a poor man's Zaha. So I guess if Wilf gets hurt, this guy would replace him, but I don't see how he fits into our current side.

Would we switch to Zaha-Solanke-Townsend up front? Worth a shot I guess.

I'd feel better about Solanke if here were an upgrade on Townsend, who looks like he has lost at least a step or two over last year.

And hopefully Ayew back to Swansea, that will save even more cash.

Not quite with you there Bald_Eagle, of course we want a good mid field player as you say, but thats not the whole answer when you consider all our so called strikers have missed a hat full of goals, many from easy (on paper) scoring chances.

Cast your mind back a couple of seasons and Glenn Murray couldn't get off the bench for the same club so they flogged him to Brighton and look at him now
