Presumably only Paul Harris...

I'd probably put Toby Young in charge.

Absolutely not. He sent a naughty text once. The man should be in prison.

What's wrong with teaching Roman numerals? I presume you were taught them? I certainly was.

They were still the standard way of adding up when I went to school.

Had to go to school on Saturday mornings to study Latin, I kid you not

Of course, in those days we were very keen to reverse immigration, Romani ite Domum.

Mmmmm....Nothing wrong with teaching Roman numerals. So working class kids shouldn't be taught things you regard as 'old fashioned' then......Well I don't go along with that......Shall we teach them how to type more quickly on their mobiles perhaps?

There's a reason social mobility is low and I don't see your comments here as helping with that.

Gove isn't someone I like much.....but he was a better education secretary than most of them.

I had to go to evening classes in Selhurst to learn to touch type when I was in my thirties.

Even now I don't think many schools teach it.

Still, time better spent on learning Roman numerals because you come across them so often.

Or maybe we could learn binary instead, at least that does have a current use.

I think you’ll find that non binary is all the rage these days.

I suppose you think that teaching Latin is pointless, too.

Didn’t I tell you? I wanted to be a Judge but I didn’t have the Latin.

What a waste of Saturdays. Just a bit more effort and I certainly would have been one

That doesn't actually answer my question.

Usually policy is better made following a deep review of the issues.

For some people this simple truth somehow never hits home

As someone that left teaching a very long time ago, when Ashburton was still a school, I don't feel sufficiently informed to make that determination. I do believe the TES is in a reasonable place to give an informed view, however. I suggest you direct your question to that august publication.

So you don't have an opinion. How queer.

If we got our territorial waters back & not the piddling 12 miles the EU has permitted us under a licence we have to reapply for every 10 years our fishing industry would be worth 2 billion a year.

Laugh at it all you want but what the EU has done to our fishing fleets is a disgrace.
