Sorry but he was the worst player on the pitch at Chelsea and didn't do anything more yesterday.
The Premier league is the fastest and hardest in the world, many players have arrived on these shores and taken months to adapt to the Premier .

he's being played in the wrong position, he looked good on the left for 20 min away at Watford, but he never had an outlet yesterday and kept having to go backwards. Schlupp looked OK for a change when he came on - left footed so we had more balance to the team - we haven't found a way to fit Meyer in yet - if we played with a three man midfield or a diamond he would be the advanced midfielder, in an old fashioned 442 he's not going to oust Luka or Kouyate.

Meyer is the one player in our squad who can pick a pass. The problem is that due to our inability to score, we have to defend with all 11 players when we don’t have the ball in our half. So when we regain the ball there is no one ahead of him to pass to. In this situation we need a player like RLC with the physical strength to hold the ball until one or two players can get upfield.

whilst Max is being played out of position he is now reminding me of Barry Bannan, but with less creativity. He is too small and not overly fast so the game seems to pass him by. If we had more possession he might start having an influence on the game but this will rarely happen. Either play him in the middle or not at all

Sorry but Meyer was highlighted on BT last night for continually passing sideways or backwards, when a ball over the top of their defence was needed for Ayew and Townsend to run onto. RLC dint hold the ball up, not his game, its Benteke we are missing up top, regardless of his scoring woes, he holds the ball up and offers a target.

Almost every time he got the ball he seemed to look up the pitch but had nothing to aim for - considering how much running Ayew does, his movement up front is awful. Oh to have a striker (or even a midfielder) that can run the channels or diagonals.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Amazing the variety in opinions, including that from Roy: It's incredible he should say this, Meyer played several killer through balls that our dopey front line weren't aware of, I can't remember him playing a duff pass and he was being played well out of position. It surprises me someone with Roy's experience would come out and make statements like this, and it's worrying that he's making "pub fan" comments and doesn't seem able to see that the players around him had the touch of a trampoline. This is akin to people saying Townsend is having a s*** season, when you see him putting in 2-3 crosses a game that any half-decent league two striker would be on the end of.

If you're a good team who can use the break effectively, passing backwards or sideways works well because the dimensions of the game/position of the opposition can be exploited. Also, he never has any options to move forward because our movement is awful. What midfielders do we have who get in to space? I only see PVA and Townsend moving in to space on a regular basis, there are no other outlets to release to.

It does seem like Roy isn't a fan of Meyer at all. More evidence for the theory that this was a signing thrust upon him.

I find it even more concerning that Roy has used the word 'instrumental' in the same sentence as the name Jeff Schlupp...
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
