Mentioning things like "heart", "conscience" and "society" over and over in a look at how caring I am way isn't debating the point. Nor is mentioning things like "shareholders" or "profits" as though they're intrinsically evil things either.

I’ve never said profit or shareholders are evil. This isn’t every man for himself v socialism. Sometimes capitalism needs regulating. Probably more than sometimes.

But they do protect smokers Jim. And the controls on gambling are going to be to protect society and in particular the families and dependents of people spending all their wages and more on absolutely nothing but an inevitable debt spiral.

They don't. It might mean that the smoker spends less time in a smoky room in certain places, like at work or the pub, but not in their homes or cars etc, and that is only a by product of it. People can still smoke themselves to all the things you listed, can they not?

If they wanted to protect smokers, as well as everyone else, they'd ban it.

The change to the stakes on FOBTs will not eradicate addictive gamblers. Clearly there were none of them around before FOBTs...

For as long as there has been gambling, there's been losers.

Sales if tobacco are down since the smoking bans. Many people don’t smoke anymore.

Many people won’t gamble themselves into debt when the £2 stakes come in. Many will, many won’t. It’s then if other fixed RTP gambling is regulated.

That is simply following the trend of decades previous, not because of the ban per se. See graph.

All because the public have been encouraged/incentivised to quit or not start or not continue with the young, early curiosity stage of smoking, including the bans, not because individuals decided without knowledge, taxes or restrictions.

Yeah, not because of the ban. Like I said.

It took the bans in 2006 to beat 1994 figures, so the bans were a major factor considering there was no trend for 12 years.
