I think you will be pilloried for that first sentence you wind up. Certainly NOT trying to trigger any reaction on HOL at all. I have witnessed more posters on here sharing my viewpoint and several others I have spoken to or been in communication with outside of HOL also believe that we will be relegated, hence my comment. In any event, let's not get drawn into that debate - let's concentrate on the subject matter. Edited by Willo (12 Mar 2018 9.05am)

No wonder that genius Pardew described the signing of Benteke as a: "No brainer." He even said at £50m securing the big Belgian's services would be a bargain. What a joker, couldn't wait to bomb out Glenn Murray for the likes of Yaya Sanogo, Connor Wickham, Adebayor and now eventually big Ben. Clueless. We only stayed in the Premier League last season because of Benteke 16 goals.

Sorloth was w*** today. Surprised so many here singing his praises. Should have had two, lost every aerial battle, jogged about, poor first touch. I feel as though it should have been him off at HT, rather than Benteke, and that sentiment was definitely echoed by others that were there. Quite surprised posters here think it was the other way round! Edited by SeagullHunter (10 Mar 2018 8.36pm) Completely agree. I do not understand why people are raving about him. He was woeful at Chelsea. How he missed from 8 yards out where he hit the post i'll never know, not to mention the fact he took the ball of zaha for it. Benteke all day long for me, hes had a hand in 7 of our 10 goals in 2018, 6 assists and a goal so clearly he is creating chances. Sorloth looks slow and clueless, I hope for the good of the club that he comes good.

Based on what I've seen over the past few games I would have to say Sorloth on Sat against Huddersfield. He's raw and inexperienced and it's a huge step-up from the Danish League to the Premier League. However, he's full of running and hit the post and had a goal disallowed on Sat. Benteke is so palpably lacking in form and confidence and just 2 goals all season tells its own story. However, it's Roy Hodgson that sees them in training and has to judge their current attitude, aptitude and ability. What I'm really hoping is that competition between Sorloth and Benteke, and with Wickham back in training, produces goals and improved performances for the critical last 8 games.

The Benteke we have seen (But not this season) is a player who can compete aerially, is physically strong can hold the ball up and thrives on delivery from wide areas. When people think of Benteke these are the qualities they visualise but these same people would be surprised to see the player in his current form. Sorloth doesn't appear to be a player who can compete aerially and is a player who likes the ball to feet where he can run at defences so he doesn't look like that traditional 'No 9'. Also Benteke has a proven record of scoring goals in the PL whereas Sorloth is inexperienced and is making the step-up from the Danish league to the PL.

So are you advocating to persevere with the experienced Benteke who is a shadow of his former self? I would rather cut our losses and continue with the only other striker available to us. Bentekes time is up for me. How long do we give him to come good? Theres only 8 games left.

Significantly, Hodgson withdrew Benteke at half-time and left Sorloth on and later complained about a lack of effort in the first half. Edited by Willo (12 Mar 2018 10.28am)

Bentenke got a kick up the a**e by being subbed against Chelsea. I say give him a chance to make amends against Huddersfield and if he doesn't up his game then we bring on the new lad. Whatever we do at least we finally have options, especially with RLC also returning to the club. Against those teams in and around us having options from the bench will be a big boost.

Start the match with Sørloth (in a 433) and if still level or better at half time then give Benteke a run for the last half hour or so either with Sørloth in a 442 or replacing him in a 433. Not quite a must win but definitely a must not lose.
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |
