You know that, I know that, but I wonder if the powers that be know or care about that.

Its quite incredible how Smith has been matched so far in his career. Nothing would surprise me.

haha good point, anyway can we change this title to a Combats sports thread, to cover Boxing, MMA, kickboxing/ k1 and Muaythai. Would be a sick thread.

To be fair, Degale lost the last time out, however you are correct about Ramirez.

I think that was a motivation issue, at least I hope otherwise that defeat was due to the war he was in with Badou Jack. On his day he's the best in world, can you imagine what he'd do to Eubank jnr?

Have to disagree there mate - on his day I would say he's as good as Groves but not better. Was at the O2 back in 2011 when Groves out foxed him.

Hope he gets back to his best - of course, he would have too much for Junior.

Theres also the fact that its a late replacement, nobody worth there salt is going to accept a fight on 1 week notice. This is a very smart replacement as he's a bigger draw than most boxers they could attract on such a notice.

This guy has been the reserve fighter all along. It's got nothing to do with him being a bigger draw, it's simply a case that the show must go on.

Whilst this isn't Smiths fault - his resume is quite appalling. No one even near world class on there.

If Groves does not recover in time it would not surprise me if they then matched Smith with another replacement for the final.

I think they need to stick with both finalists, anyone fresh for the final or someone who has already lost getting a second chance would be stupid. I'm not happy about Smith's change of opponent but that has happened in fight week, so not much you can do about that. Nothing is set in stone for June, nor does it need to be once it's down to the finalists.

No thanks, but by all means make another one to cover those other sports.

Lol really he's been the "reserve fighter all along" please link me proof of that. Even if he is on the reserves list why did they choose a k1 fighter? If you don't think its based on who is the bigger draw you don't know anything about combat sports.

Will his own words suffice?

“I've been waiting for this chance to come,” 34-year-old Holzken said. “I was signed as a substitute fighter so I’m very well trained and prepared.”

[Link]

It has got sod all to do with him being a draw. Now if you want to talk about sports other than boxing by all means set up a thread and i'll ignore it but you don't seem to know how boxing works, certainly not well enough to try and tell me what is what anyway.

Ok so tell me why they have a K1 legend, one of the best Dutch kickboxers off all time ( the best kickboxing country behind Thailand) as a substitute fighter. As you said he hasn't done 12 rounds of boxing yet. You really think they couldn't get a more established boxer as a "substitute".

Is the proof you requested, and that I provided, not enough?

Because he was also due to be fighting Fedor Chundinov's brother, Dmitrii, on the undercard to help pad out his currently crap boxing record. Chudinov's brother got beaten by a 45 year old journeyman in his last bout.

Oh no it is fair play, I see you used google well done, but doesn't effect the original point of nieky holzken now fighting Smith because he is a draw, he will bring all the kickboxing/Muaythai fans over. Why else would he be the substitute, he isn't a boxer he's a kickboxing legend. He's not fighting on the world series of boxing championship semi final on his boxing merit, he's fighting because he's a big name and can bring a diffrent fan base.

I was reading some German boxing sites earlier today actually, but I thought I'd provide you the proof you requested in English.

I couldn't give a flying f*** about kickboxing or it's fans, he's in the semi-final as he's the reserve fighter. Do you really think he was getting a big purse to fight Chudinov? On the undercard of a fight in Germany, where PPV is non-existent.

As far as I'm aware this isn't even being shown on Dutch TV. He's not bringing anything to this, apart from the show not having to be cancelled.
