The teams that are seemingly in decline have mostly sold their best players. We haven't. It's a false comparison. By rights we should be doing much better than them now and into the future. It would be a massive failure if they stay up and we don't or even if we end up below them considering.

Hmmmm.... Is our chairman really so bad ? Mistakes yes... But we could be run much much worse....
