He des have considerable talents

This penalty miss shame is the perfect opportunity to shame him into showing us what he's got.

Yes, he's made a selfish mistake.

But at least he did it because he wanted to score.

Let's not chuck away the baby with the bathwater

Punish him, yes. But give him a chance to redeem himself. He has got fantastic talent. He now needs a rocket up his arse in order to deliver on those talents.

Why do we keep ditching all these expensive cars just because they are backfiring?

Surely it's better to fine tune them.

I sort of get your drift as form IS temporary and class is there to see.
I really wish it wouldn't have had to be like this though to iron out issues.
Maybe it will show that he is red and blue IF he puts it all on the line going forwards.
Could ..I say could be the catalyst for the team to push on.
How can most pundits be wrong in saying we won't go down.
Still at least agent pardew is doing his thing for us
Bottom line I will still be here next season whatever.

I thought he'd just had his best game this season but that's largely forgotten now.

From the look on Wilf's face as he left the pitch, I think the dressing room would have been an interesting place to be.

I'm not sure where Benteke goes from here in terms of his Palace career....

I suspect that Hodgson has said this for a reason. Ie back in the dressing room im sure Benteke will get 98% blame but the other players on the field at the time will get some grief for not stopping it.

Outrageous this has happened and outrageous no one stopped it.

And then such a lame pen what was he thinking.

These two points could be vital.

I've always said we'd be safe and now I'm not so sure.

Benteke has to be dropped just has to be dropped after such indiscipline..

I worry what this saga will do to the team moral for the next couple of crucial games.

No more 'we'll be fine' then?

I'm doubting it before the penalty miss. We're not realising or trying hard enough by risking players forward until 88 mins are up. We need wins and not enough players are moving out of safety first positions and there's nobody in the no 10 position and there's inside out midfielders who aren't wingers with a striker needing lots of crosses, which you need early, not cutting back every time. I'd be confident if Roy started this at the start of the season or with a couple of games in. This is definitely on a knife edge. Even more with the lack of leaders and the relaxed approach in letting points slip through their fingers. It's poor professionalism.

Instrumental in pretty much everything we did good, up until injury time. Would be easier to take if he'd been crap all game. So frustrating that he plays well and then it all goes tits up.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

That in itself is going to cause us problems I fear. At the game I was absolutely livid with Benteke but after the dust has settled I feel going forward now it really is a pivotal time for Benteke and us following this monumental cock up. On Tuesday night the first effort on goal he misses the crowd are going to be baying for his blood. Its going to be a tough night for Christian. With another 2 points dropped and If it doesnt go well on Tuesday night the atmosphere will turn toxic pretty quick again. I really hope he stands up to it and shows us how sorry he is with a performance. I have my doubts whether he has this in his makeup. We need the real Benteke to please stand up. We need the team to come together on Tuesday night and show us all they want to put it right. If only we had another Jedi character in this group

Unfortunately I fear we are seeing the real Benteke! Interestingly watching goals on Sunday. Ray Wilkins said when working with him at Villa was a struggle for Benteke to say good morning! Says it all for me arrogance.

despite what Roy said I didn't see him wrestle the ball off anyone. Milo just led him walk up and take it. The captain should have stepped him but Scott isn't a confrontational person and so not a leader which is what we needed in this situation.

I think Sakho gave the armband to Jules but that may have changed at half-time.

So many gobby scousers in the game, but we don't have one.

Going back to the original post - was there a confrontation between Benteke and a fan?

I think he should be fined and dropped.

Ruined his best (and let's face it, it was that great) game of the season.

The whole stadium knew what was going to happen. It should never have been allowed to happen.

If we'd been 2-0 up with two minutes to go - fine - try and end your goal drought.

Not in a game where we need the points and the designated penalty taker has already scored with a very well taken penalty.

Ego before club. He should give his week's wages to St Christopher's or the Palace For Life Foundation.
