And as a late forties man what is your excuse?

Not in your case then, ok. I personally don't regard that attitude as being good for any nation but that's your view.

So do you see yourself as stateless? Not owning any allegiance to a country?

I don't regard myself as stateless, I have dual nationality and broadly speaking share a cultural familiarity with both countries.

In general, my outlook and intention is to make systems work better for everyone, continuous improvement. But I am less inclined to see the world as zero-sum; I accept that power is part of how the world works but I think greater co-operation is more likely to create benefits for all than more competition.

So 'allegiance' is a loaded construct, and hugely contested - as you'll know from the political expressions from either side, there is much contention about whose version of a country is the aim.

In general, I reckon the craggier you get, the more money you have to lose, and the more set in your ways you become.

It's surely happening to me, it's hard to stay free of assumptions and pretty exhausting. Habits of mind tend to lend to stereotypes.

Interesting.

Because what you are really saying is that our colour orientated politics allowed a potentially worse situation for the country and it's inhabitants.

The simplistic notion of apartied bad, black rule good was typical of the sort of remote interference that has been a recuring feature of British foreign policy and one that has produced one mess after another.

Fortunately for Zimbabwean citizens they are not subject to that British foreign policy at all.

Since it is all going so well, perhaps you should consider moving there.

A fool and their money is easily parted. As you go through life, it's not the fact that you acquire stereotypes and assumptions that is perhaps a problem...that's inevitable...it's how accurate they are in practice.

You very much sound like someone from a generation who never had to fight for anything. All these are ivory tower concepts to me. I was brought up in a family where nearly all the males I knew served in the military.

Soft fingers are only enabled by previous scarred ones.

Notions of being above it all and not having 'allegiance'? Yeah right...Let's hope that the bell never tolls and you never have to revisit these ideas.

Being subjugation by a black minority is no improvement. You either liberate all the people, or you're the next tyrant.

Your Boys Own sanitised world of our colonialist past.

If it is a third world dictatorship its better in their eyes than being ruled by whites.
