Callum Wilson has come back from two serious ACL injuries, so maybe there's hope yet for Wickham. Not that I'll be putting him in my fantasy football team any time soon...

He reminds me of Dean Ashton... Both very talented, burst on to the scene at a young age but were hampered by serious injury... I just can't ever see him returning to the level he was at... Nearly 2 years out of football takes its toll and not many players return from that length of time out to be the players that were. John Salako never returned to the level he was at... Same with Bolasie In fact off the top of my head I can only think of Alan Shearer who after about 14 months came back to continue where he had left off.... But Shearer was a freak of a player... In the nicest possible sense.

I see how you’ve compared Charlie Austin and Dean Ashton on status but Ashton was a far better player. At the time, Ashton was knocking on the door to be THE England number 9. At the time we were selecting Peter Crouch or trying to play Rooney there when he’s always been better roaming around (and granny brothels). It was a time of the lone striker and Ashton was that, as well as being a more rounded player. Before his injury he was in top form for West Ham and being taken very seriously. I remember that Monday night BBC FA cup replay at Man City just before his injury where he was unplayable, because he had several ways of playing against CB’s and not just the one.

When you offer a tramp filet mignon and he says no thanks, he prefers lobster, you could state "beggards cant be choosers". The length of rope we give this lad should be on the long side. Our strike force outside Wilf is p*ss poor, we need anyone with quality.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

I think Dario Gradi, his manager at Crewe, advised Ashton to join Norwich and not Palace due to to football styles. He was probably right, but Norwich were relegated with Ashton whereas I firmly believe we would’ve stayed up with Ashton. Doesn’t matter to him because he ended up at West Ham so probably the next level up before a big(ger) club.

But Ahston was so badly injured he had to retire. He got paid off by insurers as his injury meant he could never play again. Connor clearly is not at that stage. If he was he would have his contract paid up and we would have cashed in on the insurance. Look at Callum Wilson had ACL injuries in both legs and recently made his England debut. There is hope!

[/quote It wasn't because of playing styles, it was because he didn't like Palace after we sacked as manager after one week
