I guess you may not have come across people that have different mores. This couple conceived to give the child to their cousin. You had to see how much joy it gave to all concerned. Many of the people I interview, e.g. from the Philippines in particular, are not earning money for themselves but for their extended family. Nuclear families are only one way of living.

Fundamentally it won't change anything and the family would never accept me but I am curious as to whether I look like him and things like inherited illness and health problems . Also now I have children of my own I wonder about their characteristics and looks and who they get some of them from. Only natural I suppose Your mum never lived in Mitcham did she Michaela...

Well they practised cannibalism too in Borneo not so long ago. An English bloke called Brooke stamped out cannibalism during the 19th century. It made a brief come-back when the Japanese occupied Borneo during WW2. Nobody is saying the Brits encouraged that but... You see, your attitudes are based on very old and parochial information that have formed the basis of your prejudices. You need to get down with the young people like me.

" I don't just sit in a room with other white people shaking my head at these whimsical darkies you know...

If that is how you choose to read it Amazing how often people on here don't ask the second question, just leap in with their conjecture. I have to say by the way that when I learned about the arrangement I was totally amazed. I met up with the couple on the way to visit their child. I assumed it was a short term arrangement at first. Then it surprised me that the child called the natural parents its parents but only saw them every few weeks. It was a lesson in not prejudging and looking at everything through your own lens. And from this I take that a loving family does not have to mean lots of attention from your natural parents.

You need to get down with the young people like me. That's the problem with people like you, just because someone has a different view point to you, they are being prejudiced. I have given reasoned debate (largely ignored by you and NG) on why I think we have been to quick to accept the same sex argument, in that not enough is known about the long term psychological effects, I have also stated that in the event of no nurturing "normal" environment being available, that same sex parenting is a viable solution, but way more support from social services involving a constructive critique of how to balance the child's development needs to be happening. But because we are to scared (I'm not by the way) to dismantle any ones "entitled" attitude we won't insist on it, and yet foster parents have to be trained up the ying yang, but any old tom and phil, or lisa and tara can apply to have a new borne ?
