Where is the unfairness with vaccination?

Nothing wrong with Eugenics per se. The problem with eugenics is the manner in which it was promoted early in the century and the unscientific basis at the core of it - and the barbarity inflicted was disproportionate to the problem.

Eugenics is a very broad subject. In the modern age, there are a number of treatments that are eugenic in the basis, such as gene replacement therapy, artificial insemination etc that can apply genuine solutions for genetic problems without requiring barbarity.

Hmmmm....this sounds like an interesting one. How so?

I mean, it can never be perfect as all judgement is subjective to an extent but the general concept works surely.....That's why you call in a plumber to deal with your pipes instead of a librarian.

Totally agree. Wouldn't know whether a boy or man needed a circumcision for medical reasons until they were older. Not a couple of days old whilst awake without the use of a proper anaesthetic and outside of a hospital or medical setting. f***ing barbaric. The pain must be indescribable

The medical benefits of circumcision relate to prevention of future disease, hence my analogy to vaccination. This is why it differs from female circumcision, which has no medical benefits and serious negative consequences.

I do agree that performing the procedure without anesthetic should not be allowed but as a beneficial health choice for a child it remains a valid option.

"Unfairness"? Circumcision is a beneficial medical choice made by parents on behalf of their child; like vaccination.

You seemed to be arguing that parents should not be allowed to make the choice to circumcise their sons, hence my question about vaccination. Why should parents be allowed to make the choice to vaccinate their children who may grow up to be rampant anti-vaxxers and hate that this was done to them against their wishes?

Let's start with the law on male and female circumcision.

Female circumcision outlawed, male circumcision legal. How is this fair?

Its not, that said the long term impact of male circumcision and female circumcision are very different. But I quite agree, unnecessary surgical procedures should be outlawed until the individual is of a sufficient age to consent themselves, irrespective of religion or culture. What does the Abrahamic god need with all those foreskins.

Most female circumcision isn't conducted on new born babies either, its usually on pre-pubescent girls.

I don't think the two are really comparable but neither should be allowed to be performed without the willing consent of the individual undergoing the procedure as an adult.

Totally agree.

Modern forms can be used to greatly improve life for those with disease and genetic burdens.

Old stereotypes used for fear mongering don't help anyone.

I can tell you from a very real personal perspective, that lopping off the foreskin before its possible to get a blue-veiner actually avoids quite a lot of pain and suffering.
