First half, chased well plus had a good effort on his left foot that was saved, and he was a little unlucky to be adjudged to have handballed in the build up. He pulled off his marker for a free header, could have done better with that one but his movement was good. He also had two more headed chances, both coming when beating Boro defenders in the air. Tough to score from either but he won his battle with the centre halves. Second half, he continued working even as the team dropped deep and left him isolated. Created a lovely chance for himself after Wilf's cross field ball, denied by a last ditch tackle. Decent effort from a tough angle from a corner as well. Set up an excellent two on two with Townsend but didn't get a return pass. Tried a 1-2 with Wilf in the area, which didn't come off. He was also noticeably annoyed with himself with that one. He was involved plenty across the 90 minutes, got himself into positions and had some good efforts on goal. I can deny he's not giving everything because neither you or I have any idea about what his 'everything' is. Just because he's not running around like a headless chicken doesn't mean he's being lazy. I'm focusing on the impact he actually had on the game, which is more than most Palace strikers have on games in the Premier League. When I'm mean everything. I've seem him more effective playing for villa. I can remember one half where Benteke was unplayable at Goodison park 2nd half. I haven't see that kind of performances since. Granted one of the most natural goal scorers we had. I feel he could play a key role, maybe a goal we help his confidence.

I do not understand the criticism of Benteke at all. When was the last time we had a striker who scored 9 league goals all season in the top flight, let alone by this stage. I also don't subscribe to him being lazy. He seems to often chase down the defence, granted not as much as AJ used to, but as much as any other striker we have had over the last few seasons. He is playing as the isolated front man, often marked by 2 centre backs. I sometimes think Palace fans would be happier if we had a headless chicken up front who couldn't score rather than a quality striker who will thrive if given the right service and who uses his energy more efficiently

Fair criticism of Benteke's performances will only be appropriate when we either: provide decent crosses for him to get on the end of, or we lose one of our wingers and get him a decent number 10 to play close to and he still doesn't produce. At the moment neither are occurring and therefore criticism is largely unjustified. There is no way that Benteke is a Vardy and can beat defenders over the top for pace. We know his strengths and we need to put out players that are going to play to them. Wilf, Townsend PVA and Ward have all got to up their game with crosses and I would even consider losing a winger and playing Schlupp at 10 because I think he could be a handful playing there.

Agree with all of this. Much of the season our game plan has involved hoofing it long to an isolated Benteke and then neither providing support nor making runs off him. The fact he has looked ineffectual at times has been largely the fault of the players around him (and AP to an extent). The Boro and WBA games there's clearly been an effort to increase the number of crosses coming in to the box; as mentioned, it's now about increasing the quality. I personally still like playing the two wide men, and feel we have improved and will continue to do so in that regard.

Another poor performance from Benteke. It's so frustrating watching him today. That chance is his bread and butter and fluff it. Personally think we should sell. Certainly not done enough under Sam. Where others have flourished like Townsend,Tomkins.

Will be hoping he belts in a few against Greece and Russia and comes back to Palace with renewed confidence that he can do the same in the here again.

He seemed to run a lot more on Saturday. There's no way that we would get 32 million for him at the moment. He's only staying at palace cause it's top flight football. Love to see his loyalty if we did go down....
