Sorry - surely you know that there is no such thing as a free transfer. Sako is reportedly on £55k a week. So over a 3 year contract he will cost the club over £8m.
Yes, he's doing ok now but take the first few months and last few months out of the last 2.5 years and he's been a complete waste of money. Furthermore, as his wages are so high championship clubs who have expressed an interest in signing him have quickly cooled their interest, probably when they become clear of his wages.

At the most he's a £20k a week player. The rest is the 'free' element.

Probably not the right forum, but any news on Wickham??
Im very concerned at the length of time out especially with a knee injury.

Was back in training mid December but heard nothing since . Hope he hasn't taken a step backward but in his case it sounds like no news is bad news .

Yeh thanks for all that..... I am fully aware that “free transfers “ aren’t free and a key point you’ve missed out is the player is normally given a large signing on fee too , but it was in reference to the poster referring to Glenn Murray as a free transfer, and a piss take post.

Hindsight is of no use to a manager and chairman who make the big calls. Really and truly a striker would gain millions on his price because he scored 10 goals in his last 20 or if C Wickham was to get back to fitness for a season and score say 15 goals he would still be worth more than we have paid out. A few ifs there but our current strikers also have age on their side to find some better form.

This may be true but I suspect that we could sell him for more than that now given how silly transfer fees are getting.

f*** Glenn Murray imho. Fantastic Championship striker. Not good enough for Prem as he’s proved.

I would prefer Benteke up top, and that is not a joke. When Benteke is on form he’s pure class, he showed that in the second half of the season last year under Sam.

This is a debate comparing apples with pears.

Mirray had a season with us that was a one off and that was in the Championship. He failed to pull up any trees at Bournemouth and is often playing off the bench at Brighton.

The league is littered with next big things - Jordan Rhodes anyone?

Don't assume one good season in the Championship equals a long prosperous career in the top flight.

Please don’t wind me up. If you disagree then you must be a City fan?

I don't know what winding up means. But I'm not mocking you if that's what you meant.
I just can't possibly rate Benteke like that without starting to laugh. He's just been average last year, not pure class. Tose goals came because he was always on the pitch, 36 games, never subbed off. If you keep me on the pitch that long, even I will score a few!!

Take a look at a comp video on YouTube of his assists and goals at villa, he certainly was class at one point. I just wish he'd be as mobile as he appeared to be then.

The only time he moves quickly is to pick up his weekly wage from the bank. No passion, no effort and no motivation. Sadly this is what money can do to a player.

He certainly has ability and I think that is why we are all so frustrated. But I think he thinks he has nothing to prove, is better than everyone else at the club and only needs to play at 50% to justify his place in the team.

Maybe now we have Sako scoring and another Sakho possibly on the way, he can now start trying again.

The only defence to him is we still do not play totally to his strengths. We need to get more crosses in when we have the chance, although in recent weeks when we do he is nowhere to be seen!

You would think with it being world cup year he would be going all out to secure a place, but clearly money is his main motivator.(Adebayor mark 2)

Time is running out to sell him and at least get close to what we paid for him. I just pray the clubs in China have not been watching this season...

Having said all that my wish would be that he gets back to playing at 100% again and redisovers his love for the game. I hate the idea of selling him, but if things don't improve soon I think the club has no other option.

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.
