Why Why Why Why Why! Bad move

Crikey, it ain't that bad! Look back through some old threads and you'll see that we would unanimously have absolutely loved a striker like Wickham a few years ago. It's not for £9m but supposedly £6 million which really isn't that bad. And he's not exactly s***. Who did you really expect? We have finished 11th and then 10th. That's amazing FOR US but still mediocre by Premier League standards (in fact, almost the literal definition...) We're not exactly going to get the creme de la creme.

He is still young, he's English (resale value) and we need strength in depth. We need options. I don't envisage he'll be replacing Murray and, if we can't get Austin or Remy, he's more than a decent back-up for substantially less money. I am not 'OMG thrilled' like I was with Cabaye, but he ain't shabby.

Wickham and Bamford could be a great combination. More optimistic about Bamford given goalscoring track record but Wickham could be a great hold up man for him.

For those worrying that the Wickham signing may result in the Murray to Bournemouth rumours becoming reality should know that there are reports on Twitter linking Fraizer Campbell with a season long loan to Nottingham Forest. How much truth there is in those reports I'm not sure but if it turns out to be right that would suggest Muzza's going nowhere!!!!

Conor Wickham was a very big prospect as a 16 year old at Ipswich, seems to have lost his way a little at Sunderland, lets hope AP can put an arm round him and resurrect his career.

Gayle & Wickham up top sounds pretty good to me? Great chance to get the best out of Gayle with this move.

Don't think Gayle will get much starting time at all tbh.

Kept it quiet didn't they?! Just shows it's possible to keep transfer targets out of the media. Maybe Remy was just a smokescreen?

Either way I think this is a good signing. Remember Wickham was playing in a consistently sh*t Sunderland side, and kept them up almost single-handed a couple of seasons ago.

I hope we keep Murray and let Wickham and Bamford learn from him. His experience will be invaluable to a young, hungry striker and with the forwards we now have I'm confident we'll score lots of goals this season.

Get a decent CB partner for Dann and we've had a very good window indeed

Agree with what your saying but has Murray got the experience? Only played half a season in the Prem and 2 1/2 in the championship so it's not massive experience, Wickham has more. But I get what your on about.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

Murray's experience is more his whole football career.

Surely this is all about strength in depth too?
The options up front now are starting to look good if not great.
Would rather lose FC than GM. Time will tell.

Campbell to Forest makes sense. Parish doing his boy a favour and FC would actually be a pretty good performer at that level, playing week in, week out. Easily believable. Plus, oh to enjoy the schedenfreude of the club who wouldn't spend money on players lending one of their off-cuts to impoverished Championship manager Dougie.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Doesn't do it for me - promises much and delivers little.
I hope to be proved wrong but Murray for me is better than him.
The worry is that with Bamford and Wickham in then Murray will be off - he might love Palace but I know for a fact that he wants to play every week - not sit on a bench.
I am not a happy camper.
