We only need to bring in 2 or 3 players realistically - 4 absolute max, but we need to make sure we buy quality in the areas we need to strengthen (forward /cb are musts) and perhaps have the luxury of buying young potential where we are looking at cover (i.e CM or wide players)

As for the GK situation - torn between can Jules see another season out or do we need to invest.

I think we will go for Gestede for deffo plus another forward for a decent sum - Ba, Ings or Austin, based on what we have seen this season of Ings and Austin that would be superb.

A pool of Gestede, Ings or Austin or BA with Muzza/ Dwight / Chammers would be fantastic to choose from with Ameobi, Sanogoals and Campbell going.

Potentially a wide midfielder - a younger, rawer player from Champ level as cover and to learn? (Gray from Brum type ??)

We need a CB who is better / as good as Scott Dann to play with Scott Dann - haven't seen enough of this Celtic guy to comment on him but if we could keep Damo for another season as cover I would be happy

We also need to make sure that Scott is a happy bunny with the Big Mersey clubs on the prowl.

Indeed - given he is better than Lovren, Skirtl and Jagielka for me (well based on what I have seen this season anyway)

Not setting your sights too high, ey? Gestede hasn't scored again since we've been linked with him. Good point on needing a winger, it's lovely to have punch through the middle.

[Link]

We were linked with that lad ^ last summer, only 18 and could be a tasty acquisition. Might be an idea to let him get some more games in the champ first, could buy and loan back to Jan.

There's a few decent centrebacks in the eredivisie right now. Feyenoord are behind Ajax and PSV in the goals against table, and their centrehalves are aged just 20 and 21:

[Link]

Kongolo was linked with saints but maybe not after Alderweireld has said he'd like to stay with them.

Oh and course Austin's class. Our position looks perfectly lined up to sign him.

Should be praying on the teams that go down in the summer. Looking at 3, 4 players in the summer but may be more if we get a few quid by selling fringe players.

Striker - Charlie Austin, Benteke or Wickham
Winger - Scott Sinclair, Tom Ince or Matt Phillips
Centre Midfielder - Ashley Westwood or Jake Livermore
Centre Back - Ciaran Clark or Steven Caulker

E Block - Win, Lose or Draw it’s about having a good day out

The following players are available for free and the England-based players would require a small compensation to be paid to their clubs if below 24 or 25, not sure.

1. Micah Richards - Fiorentina (on loan)
2. Fabian Schar - FC Basel
3. Tom Cleverley - Aston Villa (on loan)
4. Sammy Ameobi - Newcastle
5. Stephane M'Bia - Sevilla
6. Alexandre Pato - Sao Paolo (on loan)
7. Danny Ings - Burnley
8. Yevhen Konoplyanka - FC Dnipro

Which of these do you think we should or could sign?

Mbia - yes please

Micah Richards I always though a lot of as a young lad but seems to have lost his way. I know he tended to play at RB but always seemed to have the attributes to play at CB, could he be a Delany replacement?

I always felt that when we were in the Championship Bolaise used to look at Zaha and think to himself `you know what I can have a go at showing some ridiculous flair and have a go` I think now is a great time to bring in a young winger as backup who could look at the way Zaha and Bolaise play and the freedom they are given to express themselves. I think this could make a young lad florish and give us an option if either of them can't play. Grey might fit this mold.

Well, in his interview he said the first thing he will be looking at while choosing his new club is how much first team football he will play. Ward is amazing for us at RB, so we'd have to fit him in with Scott Dann as our two centre backs. Not sure how good that would be though.

I have a feeling we will sign ings. Would be great as I think he's very underrated. Seems our type of player. Hardworking, very kind and always gives his all. Would fit right in.

Danny Ings would prefer a move to Liverpool or United or even join David Moyes in Spain. We won't be able to offer European football, nor the wages that the big teams can offer. What we can offer him is regular football week in week out at a football club that won't be fighting relegation next year and a good manager to play under. The decision is his at the end of the day.

Is Ings the right sort of striker for us?

I think we need more of an athletic target man than Ings is.

Now that we are clear of relegation and are getting American investment into the club, the coming transfer window should be vital to our future.

Here are a few names I think we should go for in order to be in the top half of the league table and perhaps challenge for the Europa league spots. We have a very good manager in Alan Pardew and I am sure he will turn us into an established Premier League side in the next couple of years.

1. Tm Krul - Speroni is brilliant but isn't getting any younger and so we will need a replacement eventually. Krul seems the best candidate to replace him. He is a proven shot stopper in the PL and now seems a good time to be able to convince him as Newcastle don't seem to have an exciting future under Mike Ashley's ownership.

2. Virgil Van Dijk - The centre back was targeted by Spurs and Arsenal; He is only 23, is 6ft 4cm tall and seems to be a solid centre back, with attributes like strength, technique, composure and a threat from set pieces. He would need to be promised a first team action as a lot of clubs will be seeking him during the window. He can be a world class centre back in a few years.

3. Steven Caulker - With QPR looking almost certain to go down, we should capitalize on Caulker, one of the best English centre halves around. We all know about him and having CB options of Caulker, Van Dijk and Scott Dann would be scary, positively! Not sure how much he would cost though.

4. Erik Pieters - Although Souare is beginning to prove himself, he doesn't seem to be a reliable option 'yet' to be our first choice left back. We should pursue Pieters, the Dutch left back for Stoke. He is an attacking full back and is hard to get past. Alan Pardew has said that he tried signing Pieters. He would be a good option for LB with Souare as back up.

5. Idrissa Gueye - The Lille defensive midfielder is a tough tackling, no-nonsense player who is very skilful technically. Would be great competition for Jedinak and wouldn't find it hard to adapt to the Premier League. He could be available for 5 million.

6. Sammy Ameobi - Shola's brother shows his skills for Newcastle every week. He is available for free at the end of the season and would be worth taking on since he is young, proving himself in the PL and is available for nothing.

7. Tom Cleverley - It is highly unlikely that he will have his contract renewed at Man United. Although a scapegoat in English football, he is talented and his 13 caps for England should say something. Worth having in our midfield ranks, especially as he is available for free too.

8. Micah Richards - The strong right back or centre back is going to be a free agent at the end of the season and would be good value to have in our squad. He would be a good starting centre back or a back up option to Ward.

9. Javier Hernandez - He has proven himself to be a goal poacher. He hasn't been a starter for United or Real Madrid. The prospect of regular first team football should attract him. Looking at his goalscoring capabilities, regular starts can make him a 10 to 15 goal a season man.

10. Danny Ings - AMBITIOUS! Since he is going to be available for nearly nothing since his contract gets over this year, it would be hard to sign him, especially as Liverpool and Man United are after him. However, the prospect of playing regularly could be an attraction to him as well. Unlikely though.

11. Alexandre Pato - His talent is known around the whole world. A massive drop of form and home sickness made him quit AC Milan. He is back to scoring goals for fun. We should try our luck with him. A definite 20 goal a season man!

Also, we should get rid of dead wood like Hangeland, Mariappa, Gayle, Jonathan Williams, Shola Ameobi, Chamakh and Lewis Price.

What do you think???

Edited by footballmusic24x7 (23 Mar 2015 5.37pm)

Wow! have only just read this. Is this guy for real? deadwood! 6 internationals and our top goal scorer, really? I actually find this border line offensive branding players of this ability as deadwood. Sure some players will be moved on this summer but no need for the disrespect mate.
