Damn FFP. Chelsea would never have asked for £15m a few years ago

We cannot afford anything near 15 m......time to move on to other realistic targets hopefully. Complete nonsense unless by magic you are in charge of the Palace purse strings. We can spend circa 30 million with no sales of anyone and ensure we stay up to cash in on the bonanza next season Then with the likes of Gayle, Campbell, Hunt, Mariappa, Bannan and Guerdoira possibly going that is going to be somewhere in excess of 20 million coming back in. We have moved a long, long way in the last few years but most of our supporters are stuck in the last decade.

QPR paid £8 Mill for him a couple of years ago and since then his ratio of games/goals has been good (Just over 2, I think).Certainly an excellent one-touch finisher who gets his shot off early and takes free kicks over a wall.

£15m is a lot for a 28 year old who has had injury problems. Very good player but you couldn't exactly call it a bargain. Depends how big we decide to go in the transfer market.

Talksport said this morning that us and spammers can afford Remy's wages the stumbling block is Chelsea's £15 million asking price. question is do we wait for Chelsea to lower the asking price or go for other targets? Personally i think we should offer £9 to £10 up front plus add on's. Pay £15m, get it done. We reportedly paid £6m (?) for Gayle and £7m for MacArthur. MacArthur's been quality and is worth every penny, but he wasn't a 'big' player, he wasn't proven quality. Remy is proven - and he's a goalscorer. He's scored at all of his clubs and for his country, he's definitely worth the £15m price tag. It's what we'll have to pay from now on as we want to move to the next level. And, if we can get £10m for Gayle, we can fund this move. We're progressing.

One has to consider not only the transfer fee but the wages. The latter is often forgotten.

I understand what some of you are saying but 80k a week is too much.

Whether £15m is a lot or not depends on what you are comparing it too. According to the media we are supposed to be asking £10m for Gayle and anywhere North of £40m for Bolasie. If the media quotes are correct then the £15m quoted for Remy seems to be very reasonable

15 million is quite a lot seeing as he missed about 2 months of the season because of injury. Chelsea bought him for 10/11 million so I'm not sure how they can justify him costing more now. With these big clubs the difference between 10 and 15 million is negligible. Didn't we get Zaha back for about 3 million? Man U were happy for that to go ahead because they just wanted him off their books. Chelsea might be happy to let Remy go for less, I recon he'll be sold for about 8 million.

I think that he may come on a loan with a buy clause at a fixed price like zaha. Another alternative will be a low price with a high amount of addons , goals scored, games played, not relegated etc

If he was £10mil we'd snap their hands off, considering the TV money and the sales of our own players a few million here or there is nor the issue - it's the wages that could make us over-reach ourselves and we don't want to miss the boat but we don't want to sink it either - you can't stand still but we know what happens if you over-spend, so it's dangerous to confuse sensible caution with not having the right level of ambition. Love to get him over the line but if the board reckon Ba or someone similar at much lower cost is preferable then I won't be complaining.

Think he was meant to have had some release clause in his contract that enabled Chelsea to get him for what they think was a bargain. £15m is still a lot of money but the guy has proven repeatedly he can score goals at this level. If the £80k a week wages and £15m doesn't scare of the owners, then I would obviously be very happy with the signing. Can't imagine Ba would be a much cheaper option in wages.
