Can we start bitching over this and conclude there will be no f***ing banner (Thank god)

We started bitching days ago. It's when we'll stop that's the problem, seeing as this inquest will go on for at least 12 months.

...but don't worry, we can cut it short now as Kermit8 has all the answers. Don't know why they brought in a jury when they could have gone to him for the low down.

Are you 12?

Respect the silence yes, the 96 fans that went to a footy match and didn't come back deserve this. However, one thing still irritates me about 'Pool.

Liverpool caused English clubs to be banned from Europe and the one time Palace got in to Europe our place was taken by...Liverpool

No banner please - back in the 80s and 90s their fans were absolute animals

....the Police were forced to erect fences because of the sort of behaviour that actually led to the disaster, on the day of it though, having prepared the trap, they know ingly allowed the fans into it.

.......has our coach driver done a Poo'yet, without thinking about Gus!

I'll ignore the condescension in the first sentence as it wasn't aimed at me. I saw a documentary made within a year or so of the disaster and it showed Liverpool fans pushing at the gates to get in and climbing the fences around the gates to get in, the ob opened the gate to stop the people at the front getting crushed. They should have then taken proper steps to herd the 'free ticketers' to the side pens but anyone who's been to a match back then knows, the 'boys' always had to be behind the goal, all that is after the event, those who got in free are the culprits and their silence is deafening.

Ok - how many of the 2,000 outside the turnstiles - considering some had been there for half an hour trying to get in - were ticketless? A 100? 500? 1000?

There has been no definitive number of course but logic dictates there must have been a fair few hundred a least.

And West Yorks Police supervisors - at an FA Cup semi-final didn't and couldn't cope with that and ultimately made criminally negligent decisions which they tried then to cover up.

btw re: your memory - My reference points are 1976-84. I was following Palace home and away all over the place and it was what happened in those seasons which put the fences up. What years did you go away during that zenith of hooliganism?

Oh, yeah Wiki? Me? When it comes to football? Ha. No chance. All in me bonce as if it happened yesterday.

And Heysel - Liverpool 'fans' 100% to blame imo. They were a nasty lot some of them.

We'll never know how many were ticketless as they all melted into the background when the sh!t hit and it doesn't really matter how long they had waited.

I agree about the ob, especially West Yorks, they screwed up the ripper investigation but it doesn't lessen the blame that should rightly be laid at the door of the fans who were trying to push their way into the stadium. That is what annoys me with this and a lot of other things in todays society, everyone wants someone, other than themselves, to blame.

'71 - present day, that good enough?

They were a very nasty lot, even before Hillsborough the media would gloss over any 'problems' caused by the big boys, Liverpool and Man U included. I remember being at Anfield probably late '70s early '80s, Keegan was still playing, about two hundred Palace fans were there in the seats and making a bit of noise, which was unusual(we went independently by car), I think they arrived late, we got a draw after being kicked off the pitch, the ref gave nothing (nothing changes), after the game the Kop boys came down to kick the crap out the Palace lot who were in the main scarfers The OB did Fvck all, again nothing changes.

Yep I went to Anfield around that time too. I'm no 'Scousers were angels' revisionist trust me.

But one of the salient facts about Hillsborough after what we had been told was that no matter how many times you watch various bits of film not even one punch can be seen. Anger and crowd crushing/pushing and even some laughing before amongst those outside but no actual aggressive fighting.

If there had been so many out of their head drunk fans without tickets it would have kicked off surely?

Anyway, gatecrashing a party is not a criminal offence and as they had history of doing it the police should have been prepared. Although that still doesn't explain why the fans with tickets were directed into the already full pen.

Down to Superintendent Duckenfield that. He knew it was full yet ordered the gates open.

The gates were about 50 yards from the entrances to the pens.

The fans just rushed to the nearest pen which was the middle one which was full.

Out of control and desperate to see the game they were not able to stop themselves and pushed forward to try and get in which caused the crush.

Duckenfield had no idea that the late arriving fans would do that. In hindsight they should have closed off the entrance to that pen, before opening the gates, but tempers were rising and things were getting out of control outside. Duckenfield ordered the gates to be opened to relieve pressure in the lanes and avoid injuries to fans out there.

Sorry mate, but some of the blame MUST lie with the Liverpool fans as well as the police.

There wasn't any intended.

You said you saw a documentary within a year - TUX was talking about what he saw on the day. I think he's wrong.

@'superfly'

So what was the documentary based on.......events of the day that many of us witnessed!

Keep up bud.

Yep, true. They caused it by deciding to go to an FA Cup semi-final and not realising there was going to be a severe bottleneck outside the ground
---------------------------

A bottle-neck outside of any arena is the norm and has no bearing whatsoever on things that happen 'inside' an arena.

I sat in front of my TV that day to watch the match. What I saw was many hundreds/thousands of fans paying scant regard to their FELLOW supporters! I was a neutral viewer but couldn't believe what I was seeing!
Personally, the fault lies at the feet of those fans involved who are still alive today.
A tragic incident, and for sure the authorities may well have dropped their guard.......................but I know what I saw.

Either way, a tragic loss.
To 'The 96'..........RIP fellow fans (Angel)

Looks like I need to remind you what you said TUX. You were not talking about a documentary, you were talking about the live match.

And you're telling me to keep up!
