I have said several times previously that the Govt made a big error in not closing the borders. Indeed, why did so many people feel the need to travel during a pandemic, selfishness for the most part IMO. Unbelievable how many adults had business in the Caribbean but felt the need to take their kids with them. Wife just finished a night shift, passengers coming back think they are the ones being hard done by! Including some who have been in Spain/Portugal all winter. Couldn't agree more. Mentioned it before that this pandemic has shown just how selfish people can be, even with minor inconveniences such as mask wearing. As unpopular as it would have been Johnson needed to make tougher decisions earlier, especially over the borders, as it was clear that people would still travel if they still could. Not wanting to make unpopular decisions isn't leadership; it's the complete opposite.

Inevitable until we get everyone double jabbed up. Disgraceful we’ve let the Indian variant let rip after not learning lessons about borders and quarantine all over again. It seems reasonable, but of course if you are just reacting you can't do it until the variant is detected, by which time it's too late. It is also significant that a large proportion of people hospitalized have not even had one jab. These people are a big part of the problem right now. Those with minor symptoms won't end up in hospital but they will spread the virus.

I suspect 'Freedom Day' will NOT be 21st June. All the messages seem to suggest an extension to 2 weeks or even a month. We have pivoted from expecting the country to reopen once the elderly and vulnerable were protected, to waiting for all the over-50s to be double-jabbed. Probably children will be not far behind. The darned goalposts have been moved as politicians are in thrall to doom-laden 'Experts' who would have us locked down for months on end.We are on a slippery slope. The vaccine roll-out has been a huge success and continues at a pace, vaccines are working yet we still want restrictions to continue.Any delay is yet another death-knell for businesses. Are you feeling OK? Fine. I’m getting plenty of oxygen as I now don’t wear a mask unless it’s to get through the door of somewhere (mainly the supermarket) and never would outdoors, or in the car, and the pubs and restaurants I’ve been in either nobody wears them or I chuckle at the strange souls wearing them walking to the toilet in a pub. It’s getting more hilarious how the fear stricken people in England cling onto their security blanket masks sticking to what the hypocrites in government tell them. Enough now. The wet flannels have had their 15 month fix. More and more people will ignore this guff from 21st June whatever the decision is, and I see you don’t mind more of this.

Oh well, there are some pubs and restaurants ignoring this rubbish and operating as normal.

People need to leave the cynicism, emotive arguments and general hearsay at the door, really. If hospital admissions and therefore capacity flatlines in the next couple of weeks, 21 June or slightly after it will all be fine. If they don't, then it would be moronic to add to that by rolling everything back. Capacity will rapidly be filled and problems will mount. Anyone who says 'do it anyway', 'think of the businesses' etc. etc. if the result is hospitals filling up again at the expense of other and more importantly, non-COVID critical care/operations is an idiot. There is literally no sensible reason why they'd do that IF the admissions/capacity rates keep rising and rising. Of course, I'd love to hear a sensible counterargument to that, other than 'because business' / 'because had enough' yada yada yada Wait and see how the younger demographics react, then make a call. I'd assume there will be less critical care scenarios but nobody knows just yet. Does less mean less 'standard' beds filled? Or more? Or the same? Perfectly acceptable and logical approach.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |
