Interestingly it’s not the over 50s It’s all the gen Zers rabbiting each other’s holes and writhing about in Indian (Delta) Covid I would assume deaths will be lower this time due to the demographic shift but ultimately admissions and therefore capacity is the primary issue not deaths

Politically, I can see the Tories throwing those not double jabbed under the bus though and not being too bothered about people catching it due to less chance of death.

Indeed Although I’d think the 21st may be delayed by a bit more than people assume. However interesting point made in that research - better to have a third wave peak in summer months than delay it through restrictions and have to deal with it in winter. So on that logic your point re. Bus is probably spot on I had predicted way back that we wouldn’t be out of this fully until spring/summer 2022, resulting in some incredulation. Couple months ago I thought I’d been too pessimistic but it’s turning out to be more or less spot on Edited by SW19 CPFC (09 Jun 2021 12.02am)

Take up seems pleasingly high and the roll out has been great so no reason why we can’t get there. The numbers coming out make delaying full easing seem inevitable (and sensible) but politically Johnson has made a rod for his own back (again) by promising full easing by the 21st. If only he was in a position to legislate the border policy sufficiently to kept these new variants out and at bay.

At least it shows how successful the vaccine looks to be for the most vulnerable.. and what a dire situation we'd be in 'again' if not for people getting vaccinated. Hopefully due to their age those hospitalised will generally not be there as long, or suffer as bad outcomes. A bit of a race against time now to get as wide coverage of two doses as possible.

Many going into hospital are not needing much more than a blast of oxygen under pressure for a while rather than the original ventilators. I would ask though why so many travelled knowing how transmissible c19 was. Was their trip really that important, did they not care or feel somewhat untouchable.

I have said several times previously that the Govt made a big error in not closing the borders. Indeed, why did so many people feel the need to travel during a pandemic, selfishness for the most part IMO. Unbelievable how many adults had business in the Caribbean but felt the need to take their kids with them. Wife just finished a night shift, passengers coming back think they are the ones being hard done by! Including some who have been in Spain/Portugal all winter.
