In most other jobs you would more likely get your £7m a year as long as you kept your club in the top division but £3m would be knocked off if you failed

Mapletree is right. When Lampard's contract was terminated Chelsea and his lawyers will have started a process of agreeing compensation. As it is a fixed term contract he may have right to claim the total of rest of contract. What is likely is a terminal payment was agreed as either an interim or final solution which stipulated he could not take another job in epl till a certain date. He is effectively on gardening leave Thanks PitB. Having been to Court and through arbitration on this very topic I don’t know why my view was discounted, maybe you will be listened to.

I think if any semblance of an agreement had been reached with Lampard this would be reflected in the betting odds and there wouldn’t be noises about Nuno etc. Dyche appears to be his own man and I can’t see him liking the lack of autonomy with a Sporting Director and numerous ex-players in the background.

I think that Brentford getting promoted has thrown a spanner in the works!

I agree dolphin - I wanted Brentford to go up and whilst watching the game it dawned on me that might mean Cooper is more likely to be available! This concerns me as I really don’t think he’s done enough to earn a shot at the Palace job.

Mail online this morning reporting Nuno as the preferred choice IF he wants an immediate return.

This whole thing is painful. That there appears to be no succession planning in place to replace a manager who is 73 and an honourable man. It is because of how decent and ethical Roy is that I have no doubt he would have told the club of his intentions a number of months ago.

IF Nuno rumours are true and IF we somehow managed to get him on board, I would like to see it happen providing we offered him a substantial transfer kitty. That being said big ifs and we probably won’t give him the money he’d want for transfers so let’s go Dyche or Ishmael.

Gardening leave is quite common (done it myself) but that doesn't stop someone looking for a job that is the whole point of gardening leave. If they actually start the job prior to the end of gardening leave then they lose any monies still owed. If Lampard is on leave until June 1 he can sign a post dated contract and even announce he is joining Palace on that date and it should not affect his compensation. If his contract does not allow him to even look then he should sack his lawyer because that is a bad deal. Anyway I think it is an academic argument I don't think Palace have agreed a deal with anyone at this time. Edited by Badger11 (30 May 2021 10.16am)

So to sum up the ' candidates ' as put forward by the Media. 1. Eddie Howe. Looked to have no answers a year ago as Bournemouth got relegated. Has been seemingly in protracted negotiations with Celtic. Reminds me of when he played us and Charlton off against one another - before joining Burnley ! 2. Frank Lampard. Decent enough job at Derby and a good first season at Chelsea where I think he only got the job because they had a transfer embargo and couldn't attract a bigger name. The required rebuild at Palace could prove to be beyond his limited experience. 3. Nuno. Had to contend with the loss of Jota and Jiminez, but Wolves decline this season was as surprising as it was steep. I think Wolves have been over reliant on Jorge Mendes bringing players in. Totally different scenario at Palace. 4. Steve Cooper. This would be an appointment along the lines of Potter going to Brighton. Bloom took a risk, and although League position suggests otherwise, ( let's not forget Brighton have finished below us last 2 seasons ), they look ready to push on whereas Palace don't. I'm not sure Cooper has enough about him to play his part in a rebuild at Premier League level. 5. Valerian Ismael. Worked wonders at Barnsley and introduced a high energy game. I don't think what will remain of our present squad would be able to adapt to that. Has he got a ' Plan B ' ? 6. Sean Dyche. He's got the experience and has worked with a similar budget to Hodgson. Could he work in Palace's current structure ? It would be a compromise for him. I think he could handle the rebuild, but I don't anticipate the more expansive football that Parish allegedly wants under Dyche. Also question marks over the finances involved in hiring him. None of the above fill me with either much confidence or excitement. But that could be because I'm missing the ' comfort blanket ' of Hodgson. If it comes down to simply preserving Premier League status, I think it has to be Dyche.

NES is out of our reach imo - just can’t see this job being attractive to him, even with a mediocre season at wolves his stock will still be relatively high. All jobs are a risk but coming to palace, the state we are in now and likely to have very little funds is probably not an attractive proposition. I’m guessing that’s why we are talking to people like Cooper. We will be aiming for 17th next season and that only points to one candidate for me. SD
