I think 38 will be enough to stay up. It nearly always is. I think we'll finish on 48-50 which requires 18 to 20 from the remaining 14 games. That's doable.

That’s 50 minimum, are you sure Scuffy looking at our last 6 matches?

I have a feeling 40 is going to be the magic number this year, just because no team is totally detached from the rest. It could go down to the last week and involve 5 or 6 teams.

I hope you are right with our number but I think we will finish closer to 40 points than to. 50

When we had Loftus-Cheek Roy used him as an attacking midfielder, and we were playing him with Cabaye, Andros, Wilf and a striker, and we produced some of the best attacking football we played recently (ex. 3-0 vs Leicester).
If he has an attacking midfielder, he'd play him, but he hasn't got it.
Unless you're trying to tell me that Meyer is at Loftus-Cheek level, because it's like comparing a Fiat Panda with a Porsche...

Well said. Many were predicting relegation for us before we kicked a ball this season after the lack of summer investment and AWB’s departure. Most would have snatched your hand off if offered 30 pts at this stage .

Don’t get me wrong last night was dire and I’d certainly not be complacent about the ten more points we need but some very short memories on this board.

I have some sympathy with Gribbo’s view - and not just based on last night.
We have struggled all season as an attacking force and for Hodgson to hide behind the injuries is not to my mind a valid excuse.
Earlier in the season with Schlupp, Townsend and Benteke available we still looked toothless in attack and still played with ten behind the ball.
When Roy has taken the handbrake off against Villa and Liverpool (oddly) we have looked all the better for it.
His negativity is so frustrating, and I can see where those who claim it is ‘anti football are coming from.’

Plus when you look the last three seasons last home games we have scored 5 against Bournemouth and Leicester and 4 against Hull, so these players are capable if allowed and us fans would see some entertaining football more than in the last home game of the season

I really want Hodgson out. I just want to go to a home game and see us score a few goals and try to win a game. Not just sit back and let the opposition have as much of the ball as they want with no pressing. Last season our average number of shots on target per game was over 4 - this season its down to 3. Nor are we getting as many penalties as we used to as we are not getting players in the box - especially Zaha who mainly passes the ball back from where it came. 0 corners and 0 shots on target against Southampton is unacceptable. Yes we've an awful injury list but does anyone really believe it would be any different if all those players were fit? Remember our manager had Harry Kane taking the corners for England - says it all really.

The main problem is the board and not Roy. Roy has done wonders this season irrespective of the loss last game.

The board and owners are the main problem. They haven't recruited enough especially younger legs which the club need. It is not going to get any bette it seems. Unless they sell up and we get some Chinese/Arab billionaire owner who is willing to invest a lot into the club.

This year worst comes to worst we will be fine 30 pts already 2 wins and 4 draws will be more than enough for survival with 14 games left. However I think we could get closer to the 50 pts as injured players coming back will help.

However, next season if there is little investment we will be close to the bottom and no one wants to get relegated. This will also be true when Zaha inevitably leaves.

I concur with these sentiments.

It would appear that the current ownership are unwilling to further invest in the club to any significant degree and if they are in situ next season it will be more of the same with Hodgson (If he is in place) entrusted with performing miracles without much financial backing.Add into the mix an ageing squad with several in their 30s and a lack of investment could be seriously damaging to our prospects.

Kelly is not a full back. He is a centre half and if he cant play centre half he should stay on the bench. Last night proved this.

If you actually watched the game properly you would have seen that Ayew was nowhere to be seen defensively and left Kelly exposed beyond doubt. So much so that half way through the 1st half McCarthy was actually berating him for it. It carried on the whole game and that my friend is 100% down to the manager not sorting it and sad to say i thought we maybe had a couple of leaders in Cahill and Tomkins who should have sorted out on the field but that didn't happen either

Must admit it is very frustrating but if we look at what has been achieved with this frustrating attitude we have done rather well player-wise. Guita, Ayew, and McCarthy to name three, they must be worth a bob or two now. I have said this for a long time we have major investment problems and we will not progress like the Leicesters until we start to invest via our stadium upgrade. Basically we need a big-time investor asap!!

I have a feeling next year will be a rebuilding exercise with both Zaha and Hodgson departing in the summer.
