The income group and who you vote for is a stereotype. So like many stereotypes it has some truth to it but its a caricature of the real picture.....So him stating this without caveats just winds people up.

It's the most reliable stereotype there is politically, I'd say. Was it Marx who said it originally? Something like "a man's politics is the best reflection of his material circumstances".

I would have thought that Livingstone would have kept away from talking about this particular group but.....Then again he's retired now so he probably cares even less than before.....Which while I rarely agree with him is at least refreshing.

He made the comments mentioned during his last mayoral campaign over 2 years ago.

He made more comments a few weeks ago!

Oh dear!

He made the same comments a few weeks ago, not sure why the press have taken any interest.

People are interested because it shows prominent politicans making racial generalisations. It appears to highlight hypocrisy and lefties like you and Gusset trying to sweep it under the carpet also highlights hypocrisy as you have both spent the last few weeks accusing UKIP and it's supporters of racism, facism and xenophobia.

I don't believe that Ken is a spent force in politics. I think he will stand for office again before he finally goes to the Red Ribbo care home for deranged aged left wingers.

Geert Wilders expects Farage and UKIP to join up with "racist and anti-Semitic" far right groups rather than face isolationism within the EU Parliament even though at this moment Nige says he won't.

For political expediency he does have a point does old Geert.

Should this happen I look forward to our resident Hol UKippers defending it so I do.

It is a complete non story.

It is like me saying 'Gusset and IT teaching assistant Kermit should both embrace reality and drop their childish adherence to unworkable and outdated political ideology'.

That is never going to happen. Neither will this.

I have to say i have thoroughly enjoyed the recent election results which have been long, long overdue.

Anyone discussing what ukip are, what they represent or what they'll do now is missing the point. THE THREE MAIN ARROGANT OUT OF TOUCH POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE FINALLY BEEN GIVEN A ELECTORAL ROASTING IN WHAT CAN ONLY BE SEEN AS ONE HUGE PROTEST VOTE.

Its a bloody marvellous and great week in politics, best since thatcher got slung out on her ear.

Take any issue you like and the 3 main parties have absolutely nothing to put forward. Pension crisis? What crisis? Housing shortage? What housing shortage? Power supply, banking, expenses scanals, second homes, uni student debt, zero hour contracts, overcrowding on the roads and trains, cuts to services to hospitals, the bedroom tax, the list goes on and on and on.

On all of the above the 3 main parties suggest naff all.

What ukip would do on all of the above who knows? But in the short term there are highly effective vehicle with which to hit the other 3 where it hurts.

Nick clegg will be out for starters, and the long term future of britains first past the post system and its ability to provide anything other than hung parliaments must now surely be in need of reform.

A fantastic week in politics.

1) Wrong. Again. You have one life left.

2) That sentence will be coming back to haunt you should Geert have got this one right.

Anti-establishment protest vote?

Anti-immigration protest vote? OR

EU fully/partly protest vote?

(This morning Chukka Ummuna stubbornly believes anti-establishment 100%. For the record, I have no issues at all with a black or any colour PM as long as long as he/she's not conceited and you cannot see the cogs turning in his head for the memorised party line before answering)

I guess we will never know because come next May, if too many keep voting UKIP right of Labour, Labour will win and do 'plenty of listening to voters' concerns on immigration' and not a lot more. On the other hand the Tories might scrape enough over to them to win outright. By the time the referendum cometh in 2017 there'll be hundreds of thousands more quantity rather than quality in the UK and less new housing and jobs compared to net immigration.

It won't matter as long as you live in the suburbs or a really expensive part of London with foreign office professionals, little or no anti-social behaviour and cafe culture with cup cakes at £2.50 a pop.

I think you may be missing my point on this. You make some perfectly reasonable 'theoretical' points, but you do not seem to be able to see that your own viewpoint is a very limited one and therefore does not really carry much weight.

I completely accept that my views and opinions are based on my experience and knowledge, but the reality is that I am considerably more experienced than you, in this area.

That will inevitably come across as extremely arrogant but the fact is that we have many opinions here on HoL, some of which we agree with and some of which we don't.

The issue of whether we should or should not be EU members is a very important one and you can make very good arguments on both sides, but you can't (or shouldn't) base your argument on irrational prejudice, which is where you seem to be coming from.

If something seems to be arrogant.....Maybe that is because it is. Like I said, it's about worldviews not about political views being 'right' or 'wrong' but rather which kind of world you wish to live in.

'irrational prejudice'? What irrational prejudice have I expressed? How are my viewpoints 'limited'....'not experienced'? I'm interested and it would be nice to know so that I can answer or modify my viewpoint......Because I very much regard my views as being based upon rationality.

Maybe your experiences have just reinforced your own prejudices. Your lifestyle is right for you and your opinions and prejudices. But that doesn't mean that others should agree with you and that if they don't that they are 'wrong'. Perhaps you yourself don't quite see the philosophical woods for the trees.

I wouldn't be surprised. But quite obviously, you're far more likely to support Labour than Tories if you live on a council estate.

It's kind of nice you wouldn't be surprised.

Also, yes you're right of course......The left does do better on places like council estates for various reasons.
